We get behind the wheel of the ragdoll physics enhanced racer.

We got behind the wheel of FlatOut 2 at the Nordic Game booth today to check out the additions to the high-speed racer. One of the things that the original FlatOut managed to provide was a ton of a fast paced race experience coupled with a healthy dose of destruction and hilarious ragdoll physics. As Jussi Laakkonen, the Business Development Director of Bugbear Entertainment stated, the developer applied a lot of what they learned from the previous title to help build the sequel.



The result? The PS2 version that was demo'ed on the show floor had up to five thousand objects modeled by the game's engine that could be interacted with, ranging from phone wires and poles to giant rocks and cactus plants. (The same number of objects will be applied to the other versions.) In fact, the game managed to track all of the cars on the screen as well as the scattered debris without dropping frames. That stable frame rate also extended to drivers smashing into each other and running cars off the road. We were also informed that there will be at least 40 tracks to race around, as well as 12 stunt events. All of the events were available, and we really enjoyed trying to hurl drivers through goal posts in Football or sliding them within the Curling event. For people who want to get their crash on, you can enter into 6 demolition derbies or take on any one of the 8 speedways with one of the seven drivers available.

We'll have more on the game, which is scheduled to ship next month, as soon as it's released.
