This tutorial will instruct you on how to change the name your xbox shows when you play halo, ftp with avalaunch or play any other multiplayer game.
In this tutorial I assume you already know how to ftp to your xbox, if you dont, there's plenty of other tutorials here that will explain that to you.
Finaly, I take no fault if you somehow mess up your xbox will following this tutorial, follow at your own risk.
OKay on to the good stuff! :Þ
1)Connect to your xbox with a ftp client (ex flashfxp I.E., or wsftp).
2)Locate a file called "NICKNAME.XBN" in your E:UDATA folder. Once you have found it, just download it to any folder on your computer that you'd like.
3)Open WinHEX (I used WinHEX-e 11.6 for this tutorial), if you dont have WinHEX, you can get it at http://www.winhex.com/winhex/index-m.html. Open the "NICKNAME.XBN" file that you downloaded to your computer.
4)If you opened the file correctly, you should see a bunch of numbers and in the middle, some of their values. At the top right should be your xbox's name.
5)Now you can change it to whatever you want. I haven't used any crazy characters so I'm not sure if their would be any problems using them. Be sure of 2 things, that you keep the SM letters in front of your xbox's name, and that you have periods (".") between each of the letters.
6)At the end it should look the same as when you opened the file, but with a name that you prefer.
7)Once your done customizing the name, just save it, upload it back into your xbox's E:UDATA folder (be sure to click yes when your ftp client prompts you if you want to overwrite the old file).
8)Your done, enjoy! Now you don't have to go online (using xbconnect) or play againest your buddies with a panzee name like "Saucy" or "Sleepy".
