Software Requirements:
- EvoX Dashboard (Any version)
- FTP Client (Flash FXP, CuteFTP)
Hardware Requirements:
- Network Cable (Crossover or Patch lead depending on your setup)
Objective:
Enable the back up of game save data, copying game save data from one source to your Xbox, deleting specific games saves all via your FTP client.
How to use Game Saves on the Xbox:
Ensure you have the Xbox correctly networked to the PC, If you are using a hub or a switch you will need to use a standard RJ45 patch lead, if you connect the Xbox directly to a network interface card in your PC you will need to use an RJ45 crossover cable.
Next boot the Xbox up into the EvoX dashboard.
Now run the FTP client on the PC and connect to the Xbox. Once you have successfully made a connection you will see the Xbox C: , D: , E: , F: , X: , Y: , Z: drive partitions. The game save data is located on the E partition of the hard drive, use the FTP client to change directory into the E: partition.
The E: partition will have two folders, 'TDATA' and 'UDATA'. Change directory into the 'UDATA' folder you will see a list of subfolders.
The individual subfolders are the game save locations for the different games you have played and saved to your Xbox. The way to assertain which folder corresponds with each game is very simple just change directory into the specific numbered folder.
Using the FTP client to view the contents, this is achived usually by right clicking on the file and selecting a view option.
It is now possible for you to easily identify which game folder you are copying or installing onto the Xbox.
Transferring game saves from the Xbox to the PC is straight forward. Create a local folder on the PC called 'gamesaves' then inside this folder create a folder titled 'UDATA' and another folder titled 'TDATA' .
Select the top level folder of the chosen game save you wish to backup from the '/E/UDATA' directory. You would want to copy the whole folder including all subfolders over to the PC hard drive.
Then using the FTP client on the PC change to the Xbox directory '/E/TDATA' directory there will be a corresponding folder. Then select the 'TDATA' folder on the PC and copy this folder over. The folder in TDATA usually stores user specific information e.g. custom controller configuration. It is not always necessary to copy this data over.
You now have a full backup of an individual game save on your PC, The whole PC folder 'gamesave' can now be zipped up as the specific game title. This can then be shared with other users.
To restore a saved game to your Xbox just reverse the above process you will then find when you start a game the new game save will be available.
