I have been modding box's for over a year now, but I have just got into case modding with led's and what not. Well, I went out and bought an led PC fan and cut it so that it would fit nicely. It even worked great until I decided to give it a switch. When I turned on the xbox the led's were working great, then I hit the button on the switch and the whole xbox just shut down. Now, I dont even get it to boot up or show any form of life. Yes, it is a V1.6b and I have read the fix on it. I am just pissed and venting because it is 4 in the morning and I cant get a replacement resistor until RadioShack opens at 9:00am. I am putting up some pics of what I did... Did I do something wrong with this switch???

Haha, Im an Idiot...
I got so worked up over this thing, I even went and bought a multimeter just to check the voltage. Everything was functioning correctly, I had the right voltage but nothing was coming on. Then my wife comes into the room to watch tv and our big screen wont turn on, neither will the cable box. All of these are connected to the surge protector which is what the xbox was connected to. I had reset it like 5 times before and thought I was sure that it wasnt the problem.... I guess I was wrong because when I reset it and plugged the box back in, it worked like a charm. Well, at least now I have a multimeter.
Oh yeah, I ended up de-soldering the switch from the led's. I didnt want to have the ultimate kill switch at a push of a button... The led's look good though. If anybody could tell me how I could make a switch for this thing without killing it I would really appriciate it. _________________ http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-211.html

I guess this thread could be moved to the case modz forum. Here are some pics of what I have done. BTW, the led's on top are alternating and fade in and out. I still don't have a switch for the LED's under the jewel but when I figure it out I already have the switch installed on the side. I plan on changing the eject color to blue and adding an extra hdd toggle switch so its easier to do my modz.
The jewel is upsidedown so it reads XOBX, lol. That's what happens when you do the mod at 4:00am.

I'm glad to hear you got it worked out, as modding when tired doesn't always work out, like when you format a friends softmodded 'box by mistake

Thanks,
Lol, I've done that before, except I was drunk when I did it.
Drunk/Tired+Modding Xbox=Disaster, I will put some more pics up once I complete the rest of the box. _________________ http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-211.html

I'm wondering if the swicth had contact with the metal shield on the inside. _________________ xbox v1.0 - DuoX 2 - Seagate 160GB - caught fire and is no more

Haha,
I figured out what my problem was. When I sauldered the LED's to the Switch I hooked one side to the power and one to the ground wire. So, when I hit the switch it bridged the power and ground together creating a short. I am kind of lucky that it didnt fry my hdd because that was connected to the LED's. No wonder my surge protector kicked off.
I found this site on connecting switches to fans... I am going to try it out when I get home. www.fanbus.com
