I can get a legit US copy of wrestlemania for 13 pounds. Can the softmod disable the region code of the game, so that I could play it on xbox live, while the softmod is deactivated (will the changes it has made stay there)

Quick question, How are you going to disable the softmod and still be able to play your different region coded game??? If your box was still able to play the game then you hadn't disabled anything, therfore you wouldn't be able to play the game on xbox live.
Second question: When you disable your softmod (Not quite sure how your doing this, unless you are whiping your hdd and re-installing the ms dash) How are you doing it???
Now to answer your questions: Yes, the softmod will disable the region code of your Xbox (not the game itself), since the xbox isn't a dvd-rw it can't really make changes to your game at all. And No, you cannot play on xbox live with the game and the softmod enabled... But, you still can play online with either Xlink-Kai or Xbconnect.
If you want to play on Xbox live I suggest getting a second xbox. Plus, look into the whole marrage(sp) theory...
