Well since you got a modchip why not use AID 3.0, it would be easier to install a new dash that way. You just burn it to disk and pop it in your xbox. Then install the hacked dash. _________________

first you unpack the AID package then you update the ISO with the add-on packs with the ISO updater. The general AID ISO is already made. No need to make an iso this time _________________

did you download or apply any new kind of skin from the original one that your mod came with? this happened to me a while back, i applied certain skins and what you described as your problem with the dash looking like it does is what mine looked like. have you tried any new skins or applying the default skins that it came with? mabee just possible that might help. i had gta coppied to my hdd and it worked perfect, a few settings have to be made to make it work tho.

if i knew how i would tell ya in a heart beat, but one of those more expereienced guys will have to give you the info. ive never used AID b4. and the only thing ive ever burnt to a disk modding related was the xboxhdm file for making a new HDD for ur xbox. if im understanding these posts correct heres the order in which you need to do all this stuff
Its looks like your gona use AID 3.02, you should delete the other AID files so you dont get mixed up.
1-download AID 3.02
2-download craxtion 4
3-download DVD decrypter
4-extract all files from AID 3.02 Right click on the file and choose "extract here" then a new box will pop open, just click OK, the extracted files will be in the same place that the other downloaded AID files will be, it will look like a regular folder now (not the pile of books which are the unextracted ones).
5-make an ISO of the extracted AID file using craxtion 4
6-use DVD decrypter to burn all of those files u just made into ISO's to DVD
Im pretty sure when burning a program to a disk, you CANT put the program all into one file then burn that file. you open the file and then burn all of those icons that are in there at once, if you burn them individually you might F$#@ up on accident.
any steps that come after these you will have to get from a more experienced member, like i said i have never used AID b4

ok first off i want to say thank you. ur advise got the xbox to read the disc. i seleced setup evolutionx dashboard. it extracted a bunch of files and then said it had to be reset, xbox shut down. i turned it back on and the standard xbox logo came on and then the green circle light flashed, greed and red and a screen came up and said call for service or something like that in a bunch of different languages. so i think i jacked it up beyond my repair. so who can fix this now and how much. i dont have the contact info of the orginal guy who modded it.

What is the error code you are getting with the "needs service" screen? I am betting it's a dashboard error.
The fact that you can boot the AID disk is a good thing. This is what I would do:
Insert AID Disk and boot it.
At main AID menu, select the option to reformat your HD.
Reformat C Drive ONLY!!!!
What this will do is totally wipe out your C drive. This should not effect any of your games or gamesaves as your game saves are on the E Partition and your games should be on F or G depending on the size of your HD, by the way, what size HD you dealing with??
Anyway, once you have the C partition reformatted, get back to the main menu by pressing the "B" button.
Next, choose the selection to install Dashboards.
You want to install C: Dashboards.
First, install Microsoft Dashboard.
When that is done, now install Evolution X build 3935.
It will ask you if you want Evox (E), Evox (E+F), etc...
Just choose based on how your HD was originally configured. If you have a G partition, then you will obviously choose Evox (E+F+G).
Once you have the dash installed, remove disk and reboot. All should be well now.
Worst case scenerio is the modder who installed everything for you a while back did everything manually. This isn't bad, but an installer may have setup your HD files with a slightly different hierarchy (file structure). Also, he/she could have used a different installer.
I remember once I used AID on a machine that was originally setup with an old version of Slayers Installer. What ended up happening was my .ini file for my dash needed changed because it was looking to the wrong folder for certain files. Then it wasn't setting my menu up properly.
If this is the case, and since you are quite new to this it may just be best for you to reformat your entire drive. Then, just use the installer to install your dashboards, applications, and emualtors.
The only bummer about this is you lose all your gamesaves, roms, and or games already saved to the HD. If you were connected to a PC you could backup your roms and games, and then go with the reformat, but sounds like you dont have that option.
