honestly what are the chances of me killing my xbox by screwing up? ive never done this before but i think ive got a pretty good idea how to do it ive been reading about the other versions....and this version seems foolproof.....
so what are the chances of screwing up 1% maybe?

you can't screw up, cause it will not installed anything, if you don't have retail ms dash, and your eeprom backed up from installer. Installer flag checks are made so you don't get errors, and you cannot install the Ndure unless you got ms dash 5960.
chances of messing up is 1%, buy that percentage is if you use the file explorer to tamper with files. _________________ Xbox v1.1

thanks for the response....im tryin right now but i cant get save onto memory card....maybe because its an interact and not m$? AR recognizes the card but when i try to put the saves to it i get an error and it closes....

Is open tray retail mode ment to block any parts of the ms dash still?
I can`t get into my friends list on ms dash or network settings, is this normal? my xbox just hangs and won`t do anything untill i hit the eject button and then it resets and go`s into modded mode.
I`m thinking if it`s not normal it must have something to do with the fact i got this from mininova.

i used SID 4 and it works fine !
With AID 2.11 i installed XBMC as dashboard and it works fine !
The only thing that upsets me is that my xbox now works only in black and white. ( NTSC).
Let me say what i have done ,
with SID 4 :
sid 4 detect my xbox as an 1.1 version but it is an 1.4
sid 4 detect my video as PAL an it is correct (both, my TV and my xbox are PAL)
1 . backup epprom (Bios = unknown)
2 . backup ms dash
3. install softmod
4. shutdown
5. boot without splinter cell
on boot the big X works fine, after that only on black and white.
6. finish softmod install
AID
install XBMC as dashboard
(still black and white)
I have uninstall softmod and restore ms dash and it works fine

this is weird, but get enigmah NTSC-PAL switcher disc, and use it to change your video mode.
Did you make sure you use PAL from SID 4 menu? cause if you choose NTSC, that could be why. _________________ Xbox v1.1

Hi nkNave Excellent installer much appreciated, i hope you dont mind i upped it on xbox-sky for more people to enjoy.I tested it yesterday but had the exact same problem as the other guy, version 1.0 xbox PAL
Installed PAL single boot using splinter cell pal etc etc, the installer itself recognised the machine as pal, the evox menu (from backup eeprom) also spots that its PAL, i install everything no problem, reboot the xbox,
The opening xbox screen is colour but the microsoft dash is black and white as is evox and was the backup game i tested
(although im not sure if that was NTSC or PAL.)
Aid 2.11 is now showing the xbox as NTSC m,(your Installer shows it as PAL still) I try to use evox to change the region, its shaded out and stuck on NTSC.
I try to use Enigmah video switch but it says the machine is already set to PAL, i change it to ntsc then back to PAL etc etc but no joy.
I tried both dashboards etc with the same results,
The remedy i found:
I uninstalled the softmod, and reinstalled it this time as Dual Boot Game Save, went through all the other stuff it was still black and white and showing as NTSC m in AID 2.11, but this time in evox the region was shown as unknown, I used enigmah switchdisk again and this time it said the eeprom i was using currently was NTSC so i changed to PAL and voila, perfect !
Ive given as much detail as possible so that you can hopefully find a solution for this minor bug in an otherwise fantastic InStaller.

Thx for the reply, and results, i think i'll have to make a certain fix to this, but the problem is that we do not have any PAL region 2 testers, only NTSC and PAL 4, if your interested in testing the fixex installer, send me a PM, and we can get in contact.

I just used the installer on another pal region 2 xbox , Im not sure what version but I dont think it matters .
I got up to this bit and everything was exactly the same,

So either I made a mistake and i actually didnt try this first time, or ..... something else.... anyway, that method works.
note that the enigmah video disc still originally read the machine as PAL despite it being in black and white, very strange.

I'm still not clear on how to ensure I can use Xbox Live! in retail mode. Do I have to create a Live! account before using the softmod installer? I'm not sure if I'll use Live! but want to keep that option open. My xbox is NTSC and still in the box (unopened and virgin).
