I stumbled onto this SITE, that ranks blank DVD media. I do not agree with everything they have to say, but I thought it was, at the very least, notable. My biggest problem with the site is their bashing of cheap media. Who knows what their motives are, but I doubt they are innocent.

Over the last 3 years I have bought about 500 DVD's from HERE. According to the review site, Shop4Tech is the worst place to buy my cheap media. They also claim I should expect 50% of my media to fail immediately and the rest should last about a year. Well I have yet to have a disk not burn. Yeah I have burnt some coasters, but all of them were a result of my mistakes. Last weekend I watched Monty Pythons Holy Grail and Full Metal Jacket. The former was burnt 3 years ago and the latter about 2. As a matter of fact I have watched many a backup that was older then 1 year old and have yet to have one fail. Now that I am thinking about it I just installed Windows 98 with a Princo cd that was burnt back in 98 or 99. Those of you who are not familiar with Princo .... Well they are basically transparent - lol

Ok .... I am done venting. Has anyone here had a problem with the longevity of their optical media? I understand that some media will not work with some burners. I have a Pioneer DVR-105 (yeah a real dinosaur) that burns at 4x after a firmware upgrade - lol. I bought it at Shop4Tech, over 3 years ago, because it was listed as being compatible with the cheap media.

BTW: DVD Decryter gives you the media ID that the review site refers to. In case you are wonder what type of media you are using.
