I posted this on an old modding site i used to be a part of but it appears no one there knows jack shit about xbox originals - and this community (at least from my hour or so look around) seems to know what they are talking about.
Well i decided after 4 years to try to come back to the modding scene but this time under the xbox original~
Anyways i've been trying to softmod my console (v1.0) and have run into issues with either my diy xbox > usb connector or my flashdrive(its ugly, i know i know).
Pics of both:
I've been told my flash drive was supposed to work but have not found any good proof of whether or not it does. When i plug my flash drive into the xbox nothing happens. No error message or anything appears, which leads me to believe its a problem with the connector? From first glance all the soldered connections are all working (i used a led - couldnt find my voltmeter:mad:). Anyways, can someone help me with this by chance?
Close ups of my shitty solder job:

cont.
I finally found my voltmeter so i tested resistance from the xbox male adapter to the end of a usb male adapter connected to the female. And i got the following resistances:
red: .5 ohm
white: .8 ohm
green: 1 ohm
black .8 ohm
Bearing in mind that i have a shitty ohm meter so these are pretty much maximum ohms - and these are so small it really shouldnt have much of an effect on the on the power flowing through. I also tested for shorts and came up with nothing. This leads me to believe that i have a perfectly functional(albeit ugly) cable and its my flash drive that is at fault. I have tried 3 different flash drives and not a single one has been recognized by the xbox (although i own zero that are on the list in the tutorial). From my research i have seen that usually there is at lease an error message with an invalid flash drive and my xbox doesnt even think there is anything connected. Is this normal? Otherwise does anyone have any ideas?
P.S. Why do i get a 501 error if my post is too long? I had to use a proxy just to post on this site because that error caused my connection to no longer load the site regardless of browser + settings

Dude dont bash your head on the wall over this. Its common for USB drives to have many memory controller revisions so a database that says "this USB works" is useless. This isnt like an HDD database regarding security layer for locking, which is constant. If even MSdash refuses to kick you an error its the USB which as you did such a perfect job of comfirming with your volt meter testing connections. What I would suggest is going to your local discount store buy a USB/SD card reader and a 2-4GB SD card. Format the card FAT32 allocation size 4096 then plug the USB reader and card into the XBOX. SD uses a standardiized memory controller so the flashdrive failure should be moot. And while you are at it download Babylon2 and build a USB installer using it to your specifications
