Got a v1.0 box with a corrupt bios. It won't boot from the retail kernal. I have mod chip working on it now. I read that you can flash the bios from evox. Will evox flash the bios on the mobo or on the modchip? What bios do I load for a v1.0 mobo? _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

Look into TSOP Flashing
Thin Small Outline Package. = Bios Chip
You have to set up a series of solder bridges.
Secondly, the bios depends on your bank. First off, somoene here made the mistake of flashing an X3 bios, thats a no-no. Only X2.
If you have an earlier machine, you have a 1mb Tsop, that you can actually split into banks.
Then in the later Versions they put in a 256k chip that is an EPROM, meaning, only a one time write to the chip and no TSOP flashing. _________________ XBOX v1.6

I've gone over the tuts about the bridges and to use evox to flash. I read that the v1.0 mobo's have the 1mb bios, but didn't see anything about the different banks. How would I find out how big the banks are and how to do I split the bios up if I need to? _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

a 1.0 MoBo is 1 MB and you can install a switch and only flash to half of it, creating the 2 banks

OK, so then I wouldn't have to split the retail bios? I noticed that there are a few different 1Mb m$bios's that are packaged in AID. Could I use anyone of those? _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

yep 1MB M$ bios will fill the entire TSOP on a 1.0

Time for me to go noob. I've never looked in to it but I've always wondered why a bios can have different sizes up to 1MB? Are there advantages to the larger bios rather than say a 256K? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

Feeling like a little fish??? Better be careful, there are things alot more dangerouse than sharks in deeper water.
Thinking from a computer stand point....most bios updates are needed to fix bugs or for new components. So since this mobo is a v1.0, would I use one of the earlier bios versions? Am I on the right track? _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

Well, after testing all the possibilities, I've come up empty. Since I'm booting from my Xenium, the box loads that bios and the bios on the mobo becomes inaccessible. Which means when I try to flash it, the applications only recognize the bios on the Xenium. I tried booting from the chip, loading the app, then pulling off the chip, but take didn't work. I read that a 29-wire mod can fix it, but there's no need for that. This box is supposed to be for a friend. So I figure, since his box works fine with the Xenium and my box's retail kernal is fine, I'll just switch mobo's. What a friend huh??? _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

flashed mine by first soldering the points (didn't even actually solder them, used a rear windsheild defroster repair pen) softmodded it, flashed the TSOP (LOL i can't even remember 100% how, i was complete noob and had ALOT of help from a friend of a friend). threw in new harddrive. formated/prepared it with a disk that he "said" he made, could've been slayers for all i know. my xbox info in Siggy below

Yeah, I tried Slayer's, a couple linux utilities, Evox, even gentoo, but since it boots from the Xenium the mobo bios is basically offline. No worries though. With the chip, it works just like my softmodded box. _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS
