Now, I'm on a very tight budget, so I have decided to go for a very cheap modchip:
SmartXX LT OPX
All I am wondering is what can it do, could I install new dahsboards, games, files?
I have decied upon a chip because they seem to be more reliable, and less 'fussy' that the softmodding option.
Thanks for any help...

Heres a topic i started and think you should read.. It explains things in very simple terms.. Smile

Which XBOX modchip should i choose??
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt1446.html

All modchips do the same job.. They all allow you to play backup games, emulators, dashboards and other homemade xbox applications..

A modchip when turned on bypasses the original Microsoft (M$) bios and uses the bios from the modchip.. This enabled your xbox to boot backups etc etc.

see what i mean..

Now.. All modchips basically run the same bios.. Apart from xexcuter 3 and a couple of others.. So you would be safe to say you could use the EVOX M8 bios..

anyway, hope that helps

l8r and enjoy HQ

Actually i lie.. Thats not my topic.. sorry.. I did write the original topic somewhere..

Anyway, you get the idea.. Modchip Smodchip.. If you just want to play backups it doesnt really matter which one you choose as long as you find it easy to install.

cheers,

hobbs

You can also read the review that I wrote in our Xbox Hardware section:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_Hardware&rop=showcontent&id=129

I have a slightly different opinon on this chip as of late and you should read this post:

http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=45095#45095

If you are installing onto a 1.6 board I would actually think twice about going the quick solder method, which is how the chip was desgined to be installed.

You can actually use the pin header method. However you will need to purchase an LPC rebuild board: Feel free to visit www.extreme-mods.com to buy one:
http://www.extreme-mods.com/smartxx-lpc-rebuild-board-p.html

And you will have to rip off the RDO tab on the chip otherwise your eject button will not work.

I just got my X Changer from Extreme-mods.com and it only took 2 days. And I got a GBA FM Receiver for 6 bux. Sure I have a Dell DJ20 Gen 1, but a game boy that plays the radio...awesome. It helps, b/c I always bring my gameboy on campus.

Go Extreme-mods.com

(I don't work for them, really.)
