I just installed a DUO X2 (Cromwell Ed.) on my XBOX v1.6

At first I wasn't getting any image/audio when I turned on the XBOX (using FlashBIOS on Bank 1) So I switched to cromwell (BANK0) and it worked. I put in a cd with bios.bin (the m8 v16 137 512k) and it took about 20 mins after witch it just shut off. When I turned on the xbox again (w/Bank0) it brought me to cromwell again and it still isn't loading my backups. So I tried switching back to BANK0 and now it is bringing up FlashBIOS screen. I put in the same CD (with BIOS.bin) select "flash bios from cd" and press A, then it says BIOS does not need update... halting

Now I tried putting in a backup and it still brings me to flashBIOS.
So I booted up with the chip disabled (using eject button) and it took me to set time/date. In the middle of setting the time the XBOX screen went black and the orange light started flashing. Now every time I start up XBOX (with BANK0, BANK1, or disabled) it flashes the right screen for 1 second and then goes blank and the orange starts flashing.

WHAT HAPPENED? IS MY XBOX F*CKED?

I'm a electrical engineer with experience soldering SMT components, I triple checked all the connections before putting it back together. I'm not sure if I flashed it correctly, or why it was working and then just suddenly stopped. I just want to be able to play my backups.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

P.S. whenever I boot up XBOX with the chip enabled the red light on the chip flashes continuously. I'm guessing that means that the chip is in use, but could this mean there is a problem with the chip?

i dont see why booting xbox without chip is now fragging, flashing a bios cant do that for sure. it might be a hardware failure of some kind (maybe not related to chip install itself).
recheck everything. flashing led with chip on means that chip has a problem:
- bad soldering
- bad flashing, corrupt/wrong bios
- bad chip

many duox2 are (bad) fakes, please check that too!

there are many threads on x-s where people posted pictures of fakes. basically, quality of the chip is extremely bad that should be the first thing you notice... believe me, if you ever saw an orginal, you'll easily be able to recognise a fake (even a good one!).

i know who sells fakes and who doesnt but i wont display names of sites here... Wink

Okay. flashing orange means bad AV cables or bad serial eeprom communication. The serial eeprom has lines on the LPC bus, pins 13 and 14, the 2 above the pins used on most installs.

The clock setting and the flashing orange are oddly related. Sometimes you boot the MS dash and you get the normal dash but sometimes you get the clock screen. That is because there is a flag in the eeprom there and it knows the condition the clock should be in. So when you set the clock it tries to clear the flag in eeprom and your dead it seems.

Hopefully plug another chip into the pin header and see what that chip does. Try different brands of chip and see if it's your install or what. Check for solder splashes near the pins I mentioned foremost.

It can be solder splashes or maybe a really duff chip so try a couple different ones and isolate this down a bit. Also the flashbios 3 doesn't need an eeprom to boot and has eeproms embedded if that may help.

Also it can be other things, like I say isolate this down a bit.
