duox2 and aladdin xt are good and cheap modchips that will do the same job as any other chip but have less features that X3 or SPICE for instance. you can put 2 512k bios on a duox2 which is cool for that price.
optionally older xecuter models like x2.6 are really nice.

it all depends on wether or not you are ready to solder...
