Hi there, Im having a real problem with the spiderchip BIOS, I have managed to install the cromwell BIOS, but I have now reached a blue screen which has all myxbox details and xbox linux cromwell BIOS 2.40 across the top.
Everytime I try to install a bios it rejests the cd saying linuxboot.cfg not found.
I have read into linux and apparently it wont help me to load my copies.
I am really stuck and this spiderchip has cost me a lot of money and time, i wondered if anyone knew what could be done?

easiest way to install a new bios for a spider chip is to burn the AID to a disc, run the Auto-Installer, and then use the function in the disc for isntall bios, remember the spider chip can only have a 256mb bios. I suggest the evox M8 bios _________________ Blue Chaos

thanks, the problem i have though is this:
the auto install cd that came with the chip doesnt work.....the chaps at spiderchip.com are very ignorant to this fact and wont replace it....
I searched online and found the cromwell bios and flashed the chip with it....now I'm screwed because the only file the xbox is looking for is linuxboot.cfg, so if I load any other disc without this file on it (ie a bios disc) the xbox rejects it....
I am starting to think I have ruined my box now, becasue apparently the spider chip cannot be reflashed without a programmer, which i cant afford....
any ideas?

I have exactly the same problem !!!!!! .. as far as i can see the only way out is to buy a programer and re-flash the chip that way ?? ... i let you know if i find any other route

i have been told that by downloading the gentoox home version 3.2 and burning it to cd it will install on the xbox and from there you can flash the bios again....im downloading it now will let you know how i get on.

You have the screen asking for linux because you have installed a legal linux bios. What you have to do right now is reflashing your modchip but you dont actually need a programmer. Just install linux and use some program to flash it with thhe hacked bios such as evox.
Use that to flash a evox bios onto your chip and it would work just fine. I recommend using xebian since you just need to burn it to a CD, together with raincoat, boot up the xbox and run raincoat. You dont have to actually install linux to the hard drive.
You might have to twist the raincoat.cnf a bit.
Just add
Flash = 0xbf,"spider chip",0x40000
Flash = 0xbe,"spider chip",0x40000
One of them works, I dont remember which so just add both of them
Let me know if you cant still fix it
