Hello all, I wanted to post this here so we can all discuss this together. I origonally started this as a VIP support ticket and the admin put this thread on the NEWS part of this website, but I wanted to post this here so you all know what has happened to me recently. To give you all a bit of a background, I own a retail store where we sell computers and gaming computers, modded xboxes and basically anything fun that has to do with computers, xboxes, computer modding, xbox modding, and we also have a game room where we host tournaments for xbox gaming and we have 12 house live accounts for ppl to play on. I've modded well over 50 boxes now, and I also have my college degree in IT, along with my MCSE, A+, Network + and CCNA cartifications.

*I'm not bragging, I just want you all to know that I'm not some newb messing stuff up*

Here is my origonal thread.

I just want to let you all know a few things about the marrage theory that I've run into. First off, I have my degree in programming and IT, and I've modded xboxes for a while now. However, here is what I have found. As of today, 4/7/2005, I've bought 10 NEW IN THE BOX Xboxes from a variety of places like Best Buy, Target, SAM'S Club and Wal Mart. All were BRAND NEW, SEALED IN THE BOX. I modded all of them for the store that I own, because we game in the back of the store. I put the Xecutor 3 mod chip in, with the latest BIOS, a 120 gb HDD in all, and I installed the UIX dashboard seeing as I can't get THC Lite to boot off of the F partition. I don't install anything "Hacked" onto any of the C or E partitions, and follow the marrage theory to the letter. All I have to say is that 4 of my boxes have been banned so far now. And to answer the question that you are all thinking, no I didn't use the same account on all 4 boxes. Everytime a box would get banned, I would cancle the xbox live account associated with that box, seeing as I have a bunch of free 2 month cards, so I really didn't care about the account anyways. I also have a buddy that I modded his xbox about a year back now, and he just recently got banned, and I followed the marrage theory exactly also, and he just got banned 4 days ago. SO TO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE, BEWARE! I THINK MSFT IS CHECKING A BIT DEEPER NOW INTO YOUR BOX, AND I SUGGEST PUTTING AN EXTENDER OR SIMILAR ITEM IN YOUR BOX SO YOU CAN DUAL BOOT HDDS. I have a buddy that modded his box and used an extender, so everytime he goes onto xbox live he boots up the stock hdd and has the mod chip off, using the stock xbox hdd. I really feel that this is an unfortunate step to the xbox modding community, and I have many issues with what MSFT is doing to the people that are modding their boxes. But this is for another forum. If any of you have any questions, you can email me at dan.white03@comcast.net or post them here and I would be happy to help you. And I want to give a big thanks to everyone here for all of your help in the past.

Here is my second Thread:

Hello all again. I am DCMods, the one that origonally wrote into the VIP Support and brought this topic up to BCossette. I just wanted to give you a bit more info from what I've found out on my new addition to the marrage theory. I have a friend that has had an xbox on live now for the past month, but he bought the xbox used at a pawn shop and it was made back in 2003, he has not yet been banned from Live. Every time that I have been banned from live with the boxes I have modded, it only took about 10 to 14 days after the first log on of my new xbox, and new Live Account. So what this seems to meen is that MSFT is reading the "marrage" of the EEPROM and Hard Drive before the new boxes are leaving the factory, so when you mod your box, you get banned because even though your box is new, the marrage has taken place allready and there is nothing that you can do about it. So dual booting HDDS seems to be the only viable way to not get banned. However, my other theory is this, and please respond to me and this message and let me know of your trials to this. I think that if you get an account banned, and you make another account to play on because your other one is now "flagged" as being put on a modded box, I think that now not just your origonal xbox live account is flagged, but your name, credit card number, address and all that info you use to sign up for live is also flagged. And if this is the case, which wouldn't be hard for MSFT to do, this poses another problem.

I would love to know all of your thoughts on this, because this is part of my business (xbox modding and gaming) and I don't want to mess up any of my customer's xboxes.

Once again, I would like to give all of you a big thanks for everything that you have done for me and all the others out there. This has to be the best "info" site i've ever been to.

Thanks again

===============================================

Here is what "The Marrage Theory" is:

When you first go onto xbox live with your xbox, MSFT reads your EEPROM and Hard Drive info and "marries" them together. If you change your hard drive, then the marrage is broken, and they know you modded your box, thus causing you to get banned. There is a bit more to it, and if you want to know more, either email me or search these forums for "marrage theory".

Thanks again to all and I look forward to your posts and comments so we can figure this all out.

i just got done modding my box and was able to get on live for a couple days. Now im banned. But i have noticed that when in the start screen of doom 3 it reads from your HD. I thought that this was odd. So i went on and played not thinking anything of it. I unplugged my Ethernet connection and all of a sudden i got a warning that my connection had been disconnected and it would send me back to the main screen.

I am a little leary of this. It could be very easy in my opinion for m$ to find modded xbox's with doom 3. Doesn't it seem odd or is it me.

i have heard of something similar with the halo 2 release, people who had been playing with modded boxes for some time had suddenly found themself banned after playing halo2, presumably due to the updated dashboard that came on the first run, so doom 3 is likely to be the same.

Interestingly however, I have only recently modded my box, and for the first few days I could play on live no problem, even on halo 2, but whe i came to try it today, i got the modified box error. I do not know whether the xbox had been used by one of my siblings and accidently connected to live or whether it was just m$ was doing a sweep, either way im now banned. but my understanding is that a new eeprom can solve the problem, however, if m$ are indeed marrying the eeproms to hdd before they are shipped, the a new eeprom is just going to get banned again, so i am kind of at a loss as to where to go rom here.

incedentilly , if anyone does have a spare eepprom for a 1.4 pal id be most appreciative (altho i think it only has to be a 1.1 or greater from my poking into the eeprom setup)

if you have been baned your eeprom and hdd key are stored in a m$ database. in order for you to play on xbl again you will need a new eeprom (which you did) but you will also need a new hdd (which will have a new unique hdd key).
