Post subject: Upgrade Xbox RAM

Does anyone know where to buy the RAM so that I can upgrade to 128 MB? I have been googling it for about 4 hours now and can't really come up with anything. Anybody already done this. Does it make that big of a difference on for emu's or just linux? Also does anybody know anything about the DreamX Xboxes and their performance?

Thanks

1) you will notice a difference using your emu and linux.

2) you wont notice a difference playing your xbox games.

3) you can send your motherboard v1.0-v1.5 (they cant do 1.6-1.6b motherboards) to friendtech and they will do the ram upgrade for $59.99 USD + shipping.

4) I wouldnt suggest buying one with an upgraded cpu.

a) because it can and will speed up the game audio and video on some games.

b) there isnt a great performance gain playing xbox games (but this will help run emu and linux better/faster).

so what you buy depends on what you are wanting to use your xbox for... i hope this helps.

Yeh, Ram is only useful for linux & emu's, and when I say emu's I mean mainly the N64 emus' most of the others run fine in my opinion as they are a lot older tho not played with the psx one yet.

If I were you I would get someone to do it for you who has done them before, they are an absolute bitch to do the first time, and it's not worth wrecking your xbox mobo up for.

unless of course your really good at soldering.

Hi guys,

just noticed this topic and thought i would add some links to my DREAMX BRAVO review which has upgrade ram standard and is a kick ass emulator/linux machine too.. Smile You will notice a huge improvement overall with your xbox with more ram.. I believe the xbox will still run on XBOX LIVE too without a problem.

The games even seem to load a little quicker and mame, n64 and linux are a dream as the name suggests.. hehehe lol

read more about the Dreamx here.. It has 128mb of ram and i have also added screenshots and other info.

FriendTech DreamX Bravo:

Good luck to the person whos going to be upgrading the ram on your current xbox if you go that way.. I would not even bother as you will need a special machine to lift/set the new ram.
