Posted: Wed Mar 16, 2005 12:05 am Post subject: NEED HELP INSTALLING A NEW HARD DRIVE WITH MODCHIP INSTALLED
ok i just flashed my spider chip 1.1 with the m8_16 bios on my oem xbox hard drive ( xbox version 1.6 ) and when i turn on the modchip i can see the start up menu with the evox sign at the top right hand . now i bought a brand new maxtor 200gb hard drive and i want to install it on my modded xbox but dont khow how to go about it i tried taking out my oem hard drive and replacing it with the new maxtor 200gb but a screen comes on saying please call xbox and the buttond are flashing red and green . if i put the oem xbox hard drive back it works just fine can anyone help me out i would appreciate it thanks .

Okay, think about that. You have a blank Maxtor 200GB HD. You are taking out your Retail HD that contains your dashboards and apps that make your Xbox run and replacing it with a blank HD. That's like taking out your PC's HD, putting in a new blank one and just turning on the PC. It just won't do anything.
So, to get your new HD to work, you need to put all the files and applications onto it so it will work. Otherwise, you will get mass errors.
The easiest way to do this is via an autoinstaller. We host an installer made by the site Admin and Owner. It's called Autoinstaller Deluxe. Basically, your first step is to aquire the file.
Next, read the AID Manual so you know what you are doing.
Then, create your installer disk.
Next, boot the disk with your mod chip enabled.
Follow the manual and you should be right as rain! The AI will format your HD, load your dashboards, and load all your applications.

hey thanks for the quick reply , ok i have the auto installer ready to go on a disk . i loaded it in my xbox and i see the menu but i dont khow what to do from there . once the auto installer has loaded and i see the menu do i unplug my oem hard drive and plug in my maxtor 200 . or do i need a hard drive jumper so i can connect both hard drives to the xbox and then take it from there can you tell me what i need to do thanks for your help .

You should read the manual for the installer...it would have helped you greatly.
DO NOT unplug the HD while the machine is on. You should already have your 200GB HD in BEFORE you load the installer.
Swap HDs, plug in your machine and turn it onl
The installer should recognize that you have a new HD and will tell you it needs to format it. After you format the F drive it will ask you if you want to format a G drive. Only select this if you know that your bios you used allocates a G drive. (again, something that more reading would have prepared you for).
Once you have your HD properly formatted, you want to Prepare the F drive.
Once that is done, now install MS Dashboard. It will automatically install it to C.
Then install your hacked dashboard. I recommend Evox 3935. You will install this to C with either E+F or E+F+G depending on how your setup is.
Once done with that, move on to installing applications, then emulators if you wish. Finally, lock your HD.

man no wonder they call you themodgod thanks to you i was finally able to format my new maxtor 200gb . i was doing the swap hard drive trick becasue someone here told me thats how i should do it to format my new hard drive and it did not work .
i did read the aid manual and it does not say any where in there that you have to remove your oem hard drive , turn the chip on and then boot with the aid disk thats why i could not figure it out untill you helped me .
but now i dont think that im using all 200gb from my hard drive because im using the the evox m8_16 bios , did i have to use the m8_18_lba48 bios so that i can use all 200gb ? if so can you tell me how to reflash my spider chip .
i tried to use the aid disk to install the m8_18_lba48 bios and it said deleting but after awhile it still said deleting so i just turned it off could i maybe use ftp and send my xbox the bios i need then load it from evox i would appreciate your help thanks in advance .

Basically the way the bios works is, some bios' will have a hack that allows you to use more than 137GB of your HD. So, chances are you have the wrong M8 bios, or it may even have the hack but the bios is configured incorrectly which is no fault of yours.
A lot of people make the mistake thinking just because the M8 they flashed stated it has the hack they automatically get the space. You can manipulat the M8 bios using a program called EvTool. In that program you can assign all of the space after 137GB to the 6th partition, 7th partition, or to not allow for more than 137gb.
So, if you have the means to flash that chip, try reflashing with either a different M8_16 bios, or download EVTool from our site here and make the changes you need to.
