I have set up my XBMC to get my musiic from my computer over a wireless network. The only problem is that everytime i restart the xbox or my PC, a new ip address is assigned from the wireless access point. This means that i have to keep changing the XML file with the updated IP address. Is there a way I can use my PC name rather than an IP? can someone explain how this can be done. Because right now i always get the NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND. Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Also....is there a way i can dump all my music on the xbox and access it using my PC like a shared folder off the xbox so that i can stream from my xbox instead which has a larger HDD capacity? This is only secondary....

I always just setup network shares on my pc and have the xbox search for any shares on that network that way if my wireless changes my ip it doesn't matter.

yea good call
sorry about that (been one of those weekends)

First go to the folder you have your music in on your PC and share that folder by just right clicking on the folder and selecting "Sharing and Security". Give it a share name and then get on your xbox and start XBMC.

Goto "my music"
then select "WORKGROUP (SMB) Network"

you should then be given a list of all the computers on your network with file sharing installed and just go to the computer you want and then to the file that you shared and play your music.

Thats how i do it anyways

Hope that helps and i'm sure if there is a better way to do it then someone will correct me

I got it done

I just edited the .xml file and said that it should be like:

smb://username:password@ComputerName/whichever_folder

this works fine.....and will always connect.
