i'm in a huge bind. I have an xbox and an error 16 (a dash problem pparently) The problem is it does not belong to me. a friend said i could use it while he's away. got it home hooked it up and hey presto i get stuck with the damn thing. last time i saw him use it it worked, but he may have used it inbetween for a day. the problem is i know very little bout it, im an occasional gamer. I know, however, that it is chipped (modded - to work with written, unoriginal, cds). i dont know what mod and it seems like there are a few. i have read that i can use the "slayer" thing which is d/l as we speak. but then what, i run the .exe - do i have to input any data?
description of what happens: when i power up the "x" sign comes on ect. makes the xbox sound and then the "service required error 16" appears.
The version is 1.6 (got this from a very detailed table that analyses the ser # thoughly). Know how to take it apart as well, a tut showed me (looks v similar to a pc) but would prefer to skip the option of opening it up.
can i try my luck with the "slayer"? can i do any harm if i just run the disk and try to reboot/reset?
i have also read a post from dark rebel about error 16 and fixing it with a soft mod, but it sounded a little complicated.
i know i sound like a complete idiot, but were it a pc i know my fare share, with the xbox i hate to say i'm a newbie.
please anyone - i'd appreciate some help.

Pretty hard to troubleshoot properly without knowing more about the mod BUT if we start from scratch, what dash were you using or better yet, what was the default dash that would come up when the machine was booted? _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

You know if it is chipped and you get ther error 16. Have you tried holding the power button for a few seconds when you power up the xbox. It may be that there is no msdashboard in the filesystem or that he erased it or that it is corrupt... anyways the reason im asking you to hold down the power is that lots of chips are turned on that way. it may boot into whichever dash that persone used on his/her xbox.... if you can boot it in chip mode.. you can ftp in and repair the filesystem. Im thinking your probably just turnin the power on and its trying to load msdash cause the chip is off ...
