Is there a diffrence between what a dashboard is and a BIOS is? I've very confused on that...
VERY!
Anyway Im planning to get a Spiderchip shortly after christmas and it takes a 256k BIOS. What BIOS should i use if i would like to play DVD's backup games and such? Also the chip flashes through CD if that helps..
THanks for the help...

The bios is what gets flashed (installed) installed on your mod chip. It sets the tone for what your xbox is allowed to do. For instance, the MS Bios wont allow you to launch any application other than what they install. It also wont let you back up an entire game to your HD.
Bios stands for Basic Input Output system. It's like a small operating system.
The dashboard is what you physically see when you launch your xbox. The MS Dashboard gives you a few choices, Settings, Xbox Live, Memory, etc..
An evolution X dashboard gives you more options. Launch Applications, Launch Emulators, Play Game From HD, Play Game from DVD, Settings, Change Skin, etc...
Your dashboard is like your desktop on your PC. Hope that clarifies things a little.

Hiya
The bios and dash are totally seperate, but you need a hacked bios to be bale to load or install a dashboard.
to install a dashboard like evox you will need an autoinstaller, we have our very own xbox-hq autoinstaller in the downloads section, download, burn to disk, install

Sorry for the double post but its been two days... Maybe i should re-frase my thoughts:
Are BIOSes Mod-chip specific? Or can you use any BIOS that is the right size?

For the V1.6 there appear to be special versions like the M8+. It's not mod chip specific for the most part but Xbox version specific in some cases. The Evox bios and dashboard are two different items. The bios just happens to have a name close to the dashboard of Evox. But if you think of the bios separately, that's what the machine uses to boot up and understand what it's allowed or not allowed to do. Changing the bios from retail M$ to M8 allows a backed up game to run for instance. Then you need to be able to navigate around,so you install a dashboard like Evox, Avalaunch, etc....
There is a guide to bios' at http://www.xbox-scene.com/bios_retail.html . This will help to determine what bios you want. Then just install a dashboard. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th
