Hey all,
First time posting. I've been an official Xbox noob modder for 2 weeks now. It's a love hate relationship!
Here is my question: This box was pre-softmodded for me, so I really am not aware of the means to the initial setup. It has EvolutionX loaded up on it, and I FTP'd XBMC over to it. I would like XBMC to be my default dashboard, I have followed 3 different tutorials to do this and every time it bricks my Xbox until I run XBHDM, unlock the drive, overwrite the corrupted dash file and then lock the drive again. It's become very tedious.
I have 2 .xbe on my C Drive, evoxdash.xbe and xboxdash.xbe. I have tried replacing both of them (and just solely one then the other) with XBMC but with no luck. Another tut mentions adding the xbe to E/dashboard, I don't have this directory in my list.
Ok, on to the actual question. For some reason my Xbox will not read any media I pop into the DVD whether burnt or otherwise. So, what I did is FTP'd AID 4.5 over to my Apps folder. It started up for me and everything, but will I run into any issues if I run from the HDD? I'm worried about it writing something to the drive and then not being able to access itself again.

Set the xbox up the way you had it when it ran and install AID as an app, then just use the softmod dash install for XBMC.
If all fails you still got xboxhdm.

Yup, just choose softmod dash install to be sure. The reason being is if you dont have a modchip the softmod will still allow your xbox to boot the hacked dashbaords and software.
Seeing that your xbox is booting unsigned code from the hdd and not the dvdrom drive it sounds like your dvdrom drive might need to be replaced.
anyway, let us know how you go and enjoy the sites.
Ya, I'm fairly sure that the DVD Drive is toast. Although, I tried running it from my PC with the Xbox powering and it worked briefly to boot HDM. *Shrugs* might be my media, but I've tried 3 different brands of discs. Not sure. As long as I can use XBMC I'm happy.
