Ok, i'm a little lost here. It's been a while since i haven't understood anything about modding xboxes, but there is a question i need answered. What is the difference between soft modding and installing linux on your xbox? Is there a difference? If so, what are the advantages of installing linux as opposed to soft modding, and if the benefits out way the work is there an easy tutorial out there someone can link me to. I've seen a couple, but they don't explain what having linux does, and most of them are like 11 pages long. I just want to know the benefits, and find a tutorial that is one page step by step, short and sweet. Thanks alot!

A softmod is Linux unless they are talking about something like damn small linux in which case i don't know why any one uses it since it runs like crap.

Ok, that's what i thought. I just stumbled onto some tutorials that were talking about turning it into a computer at rist of not being a game console anymore, and simular things like that, but i thought that the soft mod was linux. Thanks for settleing my confusion.

Well since ive already got the space i was wondering. If you take apart the wireless port that connects to your xbox, and wired it to the controller port inside the xbox, would you be able to use that port with the wireless controller some times, and still plug in a corded controller others?

And also. I was looking through thte tutorials to make sure no one else had posted this, but i found a really easy way to ftp to an xbox from a computer. While i used to use flash fxp and other programs like that i was playing around and found a much easier alternative.

Go into your documents ( or any folder) and in the address bar type in "ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.0.2) or what ever your ip is and a window will come up with your xbox files in it.

The only reason to put linux on an xbox and make it unable to play games is to use it as a NAS, for which it works rather well. But to use it as a desktop, its worthless, it just doesn't have the memory.

Well you can run a small Linux app and still play your games but again it would be under powered and not really worth the work.

put it this way.. A softmod & modchip both allow the xbox to run unsigned code (homebrew, linux) as well as retail and development games.

The cromwell bios was released specifically for linux distro on the xbox 1.. (shoot me down if im wrong again guys, im getting old).. lol

So whether you softmod or modchip your xbox its really the same thing. Softmod means software hack and Modchip means Hardware Hack. I have installed linux and wes is right it runs like a bag of shit even on my upgraded xbox 1 with 128mb of ram. lmfao

l8r everyone and be sure to post back to the HQ's.
