Hi Guys,
I just installed an XBMC upgrade using T3CH, and saved the old XBMC folder to my PC's Desktop, and deleted the one on my Xbox F drive. Then I loaded the new XBMC version to the F drive, but didn't replace the XML files from my old version to keep my settings. Things were working until I shut the Xbox down and restarted it. I got a message that there were problems, but that the FTP was starting. I need to know how to load the XML files (and which ones are critical) back on the F drive, which no longer appears in the FTP window. Any help would be great. Thanks!
BTW, XBMC is my dash, and this was modded using an Xecuter 3ce chip and Slayers Evox 2.6.
Here's the message that I get:
XBMC Fatal Error
Invalid or missing <home> tag in XML- no skin found, or n(at this point it runs off the screen)
init network using DHCP
ip address: 192.168.1.130
starting FTP server
FTP server running on port 21. Login xbox/xbox
Will installing the original XBMC folder to another drive (Q for example) and editing the XML file that's already there to point to the Q drive work, or will I need to edit the XML somewhere else?

Boot the xbox holding the white button to load X3CL and FTP the chip and find your XBMC folder and replace the new XBMC user data folder with your old one, if you had a custom skin on your old XBMC you will need to put that skin in the new XBMC builds skin folder.

I didn't know that you could FTP the chip. I have been looking only in the HDD to try and find the F drive with no luck. Can you explain how to FTP the chip please? Also, would it be possible to just remove the XBMC folders and XBMC xml docs and reload them with the updated ones?
Here's the XBMC log from the Q drive (notice the bolded portions)

Shouldn't the Q be mapped to:Harddisk0\Partition6, which is where I thought the F drive was located?
Hope this helps, and thanks again!!

Yes the chip is FTP enabled by booting the xbox while holding the white button once you have your X3CL up just FTP the IP it shows and use X3 as the user name and your password.
Same as FTPing the XBMC dash but with a different user name and pass.
Q is only a mirror image of the XBMC folder and not a real partition, notice the Q drive space is always the same as the E or F partition which ever you have it in.

That's great info! So once I've FTP'd in through the chip, I will look for the F drive, and make the changes that you suggested. (I'll swap just the user data folder out for the old one, and not the whole XBMC folder. Was just running the default Mayhem skin so no worries there.) I'll give it a try as soon as I get home from work. It would be very cool to not lose the data that I had on the F drive! Thanks for breakin' it down for me.

Well, I got in through the chip, and found the F drive! Good call! The problem is that the XBMC file that I backed up to the PC doesn't contain a folder or file called user data like the new XBMC folder has. I remember looking for that file when I made the upgrade and not finding it. The XBMC version was installed back in 05. Is there an equivalent file (maybe an XML) that was used in the older versions to contain the info that I need? Maybe I can move that file back into the F drive for the XBMC to reference?

(Some) success! I put the old XBMC folder back in the F drive through the chip FTP access and switched the dash boot priority to put EVOX first and rebooted. It started the Evox dash. From Evox, I was able to load the old XBMC version and see all of my files. Next, I FTP'd into the xbox and renamed the old XBMC folder as 'XBMCold' and the new XBMC folder back to just 'XBMC' and rebooted. Evox came up, and I went to XBMC and the new version loaded. So far so good... Then I figured I could try to change the dash boot priority list back to XBMC and get the new one to boot automatically. When I did that, I got the Fatal Error screen again. Of course, I changed the first dash boot back to Evox, and that's where I am. Any help on getting the new XBMC to boot automatically?

Got it working finally, and all my files on the F drive were right where I left them. Xbox now auto loads the XBMC dash. Found the info I needed on the XBMC wiki "As a Dashboard". The chip lists the start dash as the Evox, but the instructions in the wiki show you how to rename/create 2 files to replace the evoxdash.xbe file in the c directory, and the evoxdash.cfg file in the E or F drive. This fakes the Xbox into thinking it's loading Evox, when it's actually loading XBMC. There's probably a slicker way to do things but that worked fine.
Thanks a lot for all the help Wes 213, you really know your stuff!
Next, I've got to see why the HULU plugin isn't letting me download more than the list of shows, and not the shows themselves, but that's a different forum.
