I was able to use the above SID 5.01/SC gamesave to softmod followed by AID 4.xx to add XBMC on 1.1 Xboxes w/o incident. Recently I tried the same method on a couple of 1.6 Xboxes and they both would hang at the X logo unless I boot up with the network cable removed and wait for the X logo/MS banner to dissappear before reconnecting it. I'm just wondering whether this is normal behavior for 1.6 Xboxes or must I adjust something to avoid having to disconnect/reconnect the network cable on every boot. Please advise

Welcome to the XBOX-HQ, we hope you enjoy this and all the other HQ sites we have to offer.
I wold first try going in to your E/cache folder and delete anything in it and try again, sometimes the cash will get full during the install.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I thought of clearing the cache as well. I will try that first and update the results.

Clearing cache did not help with the hang up. However, I booted it up with a game DVD while still connected to the LAN as before and it was ok. This isolates the problem to booting to HDD while connected to an active LAN. Any other thoughts?

Are you using a router and do you have any other xboxs hooked up to it when you boot up?

I booted it up with both a DHCP-enabled router or directly to a laptop via a cross-over cable. Setting the Xbox to static IP does not help either. I noticed it started behaving this way even before XBMC was installed (when UnleashX was selected as the main dash during the initial softmod stage). It only behave this way with the two 1.6 Xboxes and not the older 1.1

I only run xbmc on my xboxs and never had any problems with a 1.6 other then using Chimp on them, turn the xbox, PC and router to DHCP and turn on UPnP for the router and xbox.
In your PC go to the search bar and type cmd and hit enter, once you have the Dos screen type ping and then the IP address that DHCP assigned your router.
Let me know if you get any lost packets.

Just wondering, how did you softmod (if applicable) your 1.6? Did you use SID5, SID 4.5, Ndure, etc?
I will check the UPnP on the Xbox. Everything is already set to DHCP since day one. I pinged my router (default gateway for everything on the LAN) and no packet loss.

No packets lost tells me you can FTP the xbox you just have something wrong in your FTP settings, i only use Sid 5 for softmods since the other Sids are out of date and Ndure seems like crap to me.
I know its a lame question but you are putting in a user name and password right?

I do not have any problem FTP-ping the Xbox. My problem is leaving the network cable attached (to an active LAN or direct connection to another PC via cross over), the Xbox would hang at the X logo. I have used SID 5 w/o incident for the same reasons you do until these last two 1.6 Xboxes

XBMC only. I ran SID 5/SC exploit, got UnleashX on there initially during the softmod, then AID 4.21 to install XBMC and that's it

I know it is difficult to remote troubleshoot when you can not be certain what was done to the units. Besides the difference in MFG Date and different-sized aftermarket hard drives, I used the same SID 5/SC files, XboxHDM 1.9, and AID 4.xx DVD on all of them. All the earlier models worked as expected except for these last two 1.6 models. I suspect there must be a compatibility issue with SID 5/SC and/or AID 4.xx with this particular batch of 1.6's
Thanks for your tips and suggestions
