So I want to throw my old pc 20g hd in my xbox to see if it will work. I know that there are certain hd that work and others that don't, but i figure it is worth a shot. I wanted to reformat my old hd and then copy my xbox hd directly onto the new pc one. Whats the deal with the whole locking issue? Does my xbox hd need to be unlocked and my pc one locked when i am done or can they both be unlocked and it doesn't matter? ( I will never go online with this thing) I hooked up my old pc hd and my xbox hd into the disk drive slots of my tower hoping that I could go into my comp and just drag and drop everything. No luck. . . my computer didn't reconize my xbox hd and wouldn't format my old pc hd. Should I set them to master/slave or what pin config should i use? Is this whole thing fruitless?? _________________ RastaCalavera

You need to format the PC hdd and use chimp or xboxhdm to install the xbox info on it.
Your PC cant read the format of your xbox hdd so you cant just drag and drop.

This is a Y splitter and its 1 male and 2 female so you can power 2 HDDs off one PSU.

I just used Chimp to set up my 120GB HDD. It was a sinch after understanding it all with a little help from Final Cloud. It takes roughly 45 minutes or so, depending on the size of the drive being copied. Just do some laundry or watch a tv show or something during the process. _________________

Yup, we got it all sorted man, glad we got there in the end. It sounded like you were doing everything correctlythe first time, so not sure why it gave you no joy. Second time seemed to work a charm though.

Well i got it to work for the most part but the computer hd i was going to use crashed. It was a 20g IBM and when i went to reformat it windows said it couldn't do it then it said it was only a 1.96 hd. . . . Then my hd for the xbox started to act up. It clicks when it starts and once in a while it goes to the call microsoft screen. Whatever I'll just have to find a new way of doing this. Would anyone be able to send me the back ups and eprom if I just got a whole new hd together and skiped the transfer/clone thing? _________________ RastaCalavera

Sorry man but thats not an option since the eeprom is on your xbox and no ones eeprom will match yours.

Be sure all of your cables are hooked up securely inside you box man. I have been given an error message before, by something stupid I overlooked, like not locking the HD or not setting it to master. I'm sure Wes or one of the Admins can hook you up with the eeprom and back up files you need. _________________

If you can still FTP the dieing stock HDD then go in you root E drive and get the backup folder in there saved to your PC before it dies all out.
