Hi Guys, First posting here. Smile

I've spent about half a day trying to backup some of my games onto DVD but none work in XBox. I have a mod chip XBox with the Slayers 2.7 interface. According to the diagram in the sticky above I have a Phillips drive (standard one that came with the Xbox which only has about 4-5GB).

Firstly, I successfully copied Need For Speed Most Wanted from the DVD drive to the XBox HD and it works fine. But as the XBox HD can only hold 1 game, I used Qwix 1.01 to create an ISO file on my laptop hard drive. Then I used Nero to burn that ISO to a DVD using LG DVD-R. Then burnt with DVD Decrypter. Tried Sony DVD+R with Nero again. None work in the XBox (get a can't recognize DVD Game message).

So I put Driver 4 Parallel Lines in the XBox DVD drive and burnt an ISO on my laptop direct from that drive. Burnt that ISO onto Imation DVD-R and still it won't work.

I now have a stack of coasters and am at my wits end. The Sony+R & Imation -R are both recommended as compatible media for my Phillips drive on this forum. But I suspect that information is now wrong.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I should do now (besides chucking this complicated XBox through the window)? Been at this for over 6 hours now and getting very tired.

Cheers

Welcome to xbox-HQ 007, we hope you enjoy the site and checkout some of the other sites we offer.

This is one of the most commen probs with xbox drives, thay just wont read.
I wold say try other brands of dvdr till you find the one that works for you.
Burn them as slow as you can and in nero make sure to use the burn image to disk setting. Wink

Yeh.. Just sounds like a media Compatibility problem mate. Smile
Here is our media database which may help you.

Xbox Media Compatibility Database:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_Compatibility

Just a tip.. Burn to DVD-R and not DVD+R..
You will find much more compatible media.

enjoy the sites,

hobbs

Thanks Wes & Hobbs.

I did refer to the compatability list here and 2 of the recommended media don't work. Sad I suspect maybe some users have submitted false media to throw us of the track maybe......otherwise why doesn't Sony+R & Imation-R not work with a Phillips drive when recommended?.

I started thinking maybe there is a bug in Qwix 1.01?

In Nero Express 6 I use the last option to burn the ISO: Disc Image or Saved Project. Is that correct? Is there another setting I should be checking?

I also will try again today using the lowest speeds possible.

My BIG question then is, what media do the XBox developers use when they copy the disks? If we knew that wouldn't it save so much money and time as the originals DO work in all 3 drives.

You see everytime I have to buy the DVD media it costs $25-30 per spindle. If I have to test 10 with no results thats $250-300!!! It would be cheaper just to buy second hand games instead.

Are there any other tools I should be using?

Or is there a way to just download the games to my laptop, then when I want to use them I just upload to the XBox? I know it would take ages but I can't think of any other way to backup my games now.

Cheers,

Dave

Not all drives are the same, i had 2 tompson drives and one wold read games from anything the other woldent read at all.
As for putting the game on pc you can back it up on the xbox hdd and ftp it to your pc.
Or use qwix to make an iso from the xbox and just unpack it.

You could easily backup anything off your xbox harddrive to your PC via FTP.. All you need is a network cable, a ftp client program for your pc and to setup your network settings.

It isnt exactly hard especially when you have lots of guys to ask for help right here.. Smile

You would be surprised how quick you could ftp from ya xbox to your pc and may save you some money in discs too backing up your investment.

Last week I could create a Game ISO from the Xbox ROM drive to my PC with Qwix. Now today I try to do that, I have a ftp connection, but the folders on the D drive on Xbox wont be copied and converted by Qwix to ISO. I dont know what to do. They dont show up as one game folder but as the many folders for the various files of the game.

I am asked by Qwix (after selecting FTP Folder D:, and hit Create ISO ) to specify file name on my PC. I do that then it gives me an error message saying "D:/ Not a Valid folder". Buts its a fricking game in the drive. I did it last week. What is going on???????

This is NOT EASY at all.

Also:
I already have a game backup on the tiny Xbox HD but I also cant delete it so I could backup another game to get Qwix to create an ISO on my PC. I tried so many things on the Slayers interface but there is nothing to delete the existing game. So how do I delete that game on the Xbox?

I've been at this for hours again. Please help someone. Thanks. Smile

To delet a game open your file manager and go to E games folder, find the game and hit start or the white button and select delet.
Game removel can be done by FTP too.

Once the game is removed put the game you want to make an iso of in to the disc drive and copy it to hdd with dvd2xbox or pxhddloader.
Then point qwix to it and make your iso that way.

Hope that helps man. Very Happy
