Helllo all,
I have been using Evox for my main dash, and I have been thinking why not just use XBMC as my default dash? So I compile an AID disc, and added a couple addon packs:
I know the disc works, I've used it to install before using Evox as the main dash. So, I go into AID and format my E partition and unmount virtual C (from previous mod) I formatted my E partition to erase all my previous outdated apps. I used the dual boot mod, ms dash/hacked dash. I selected "install XBMC as my main dash" it gives me error 21 after the installer is done. Now if I turn on the box using the eject button I'll get to the MS dash, but if I power on using the power buton I get error 21. Now I don't even have a hacked dash. ALSO, I modded this box with a 300Gb. Seagate drive. This box has only been softmodded
PLEASE HELP ME!

If you can run the aid disk just rebuild it if you cant run aid try to ftp it.
You might be able to use the MS dash to resoftmod it and if all fails then hotswap it or chip it.
Thats what i hate about the softmod, move your dash and it will crash.

Oh, yeah I know how to "revive" my Xbox but, I really want to know if I did something wrong, or if there is just a bug in AID that doesn't install XBMC as a dash correctly, because I really want to be able to use XBMC as the dash.
-thanks for your help!

I have seen this happen 1 other time when someone installed xbmc over some other dash on a softmod but im not sure i wold say its a bug.
Did you install xbmc to the E drive from the softmod section of aid?

I used the "softmod one click installer" to install XBMC as the dash, I had previously been using Evox as my main dash with virtual C, but before I used AID I had unmounted virtual C, and formatted my E partition to prevent something like this from happening in thee first place.. So, no I did not explicitly specify in the softmod section to install XBMC in the E partition. I figure after I formatted E and ran AID it would have set it all up like I told it to.

Well if you cant use aid to set it back to stock and resoftmad it then you could allways do a hotswap on it.

Right, I know how to "revive" my xbox, but my question is how do I make AID properly setup XBMC as the default dash?
thanks!

Auto-Installer Deluxe v4.10 Official Users Manual Page 16 of 52
When installing a dash on a Softmodded Xbox, make sure you use the dashboards in the Install Dashboard (Softmod) as they are set up to work with the Softmodded MS dash. If you use a dashboard configured for a Modchip, you will realize that you won’t be able to boot the MS Dash again.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are using the SID 5 system with the Virtual C + Eeprom, install a normal dashboard to E Drive, not a Softmod one. Due to the way SID 5 is set up it won’t work any other way.
Auto-Installer Deluxe v4.10 Official Users Manual Page 20 of 52
Single Boot Softmod Options
These are the single-boot options available to you:
•
Standard
•
Standard for HD
•
Virtual C + Eeprom
•
Virtual C + Eeprom for HD
You’ll notice that you have two new options compared to the One-Click Install System. Installing the Softmod for HD (High Definition) means that your Softmod will be set so your Xbox is best displayed with a High Definition TV.
You only get the options to install EvolutionX or UnleashX in this section, but you can easily go back to the Install Dashboards section and change it (to XBMC for example).
One small rule, when installing a Softmod with Virtual C, don’t select a Softmod Dashboard, because the Softmod tricks your Xbox into thinking that the C Drive is still stock (unmodded), so in order to access the MS Dash properly you need to remember this.

Ok, So I need to go and re-mod using AID and just install evox as my default dash, then install XBMC through the install dahsboard (softmod) section?
Thanks so much!

No prob and if you use the Virtual C install the dash to the E drive, that should get you up and running.

<<because I really want to be able to use XBMC as the dash.>>
I don't get why anyone would want that. Seems safest and easiest to just load up UnleashX as the main dash and now its still quite easy to choose apps emulators or SYSTEM?Boot softmod to have the system completely and safely available. Have you messed with putting other builds like the Amiga Xbox emulator in the emulators folder? Kids were playing nebulous last night on the big screen with it. Each of these is like a mini dash of its own and take no space really, so why would you want to gimp your system by putting a simple dash like XBMC as the root dash? I'm confused by your question actually.
In fact I've used XBMC on xbox to stream video across the WAN and its not the best solution out there for this use. variable bit rate or non-standard large HQ video easily push the low end xbox to it's limit and skipping or other issues will sometimes result. disk capacity is also an issue when working with FAT disks too if I understand the technical aspects. If you really seek a streaming video solution like popcornhour.com or other networked media tank type solution here is a pretty good write up on one.

If you search digital media streamer and some similar phrases you'll find there are many and some now as low as $100.

I stream ISO's AVIs Xvids and FLVs and have not had a skipping prob with XBMC, if you do have one i would check your cache settings. :/
