OK
BOUGHT A SECOND XBOX WHICH HAD A MOD CHIP - DIDN'T KNOW THE TYPE TOOK IT APART AND IT DID NOT SAY ANYTHING ON IT. ITS A V1.0 WITH RETAILL HDD AND THOMPSON DRIVE. DOWNLOADED AID 4.11 AND PUT IT IN. CAME UP WITH MESSAGE STATING NOT A XBOX DISC EJECTED AND REINSERTED AND LOADED UP. SELECTED ONE CLICK INSTALL WAITED AND WHEN REQUESTED TO RESTART DID SO - NOTHING HAPPENED JUST BOOTED TO MS DASH. TRIED AGAIN SECOND TIME AND SAME AGAIN. I THEN WENT TO CHECK SOMETHING - I DO NOT KNOW WHICH APPLICATION I SELECTED NOTHING TO ALTER SETTINGS THOUGH AND XBOX FROZE. REBOOTEDAND NOW I HAVE ERROR 13. I CAN BOOT ORIGINALS BUT CANNOT BOOT AID AS IT WOULD ONLY RUN ON SECOND ATTEMPT ONCE REJECTING AND NOW I DO NOT HAVCE THAT OPTION. PLEASE HELP. I DO HAVE ETHERNET CABLE BUT HAVE NEVER GOT AS FAR AS SETTING THIS UP WITH MY XBOX . I DO NOT HAVE THE SOFTWARE TO SOFTMOD. I DO NTO KNOW MUCH ABOUT MY MOD CHIP OTHER THAN IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY SWITHCES ON IT. I TRIED TO FIND IT ON THE NET AND THE CLOSEST I COULD FIND WAS AN OLD APPLE MOD CHIP.

Can you post a pic of the mod chip?
Most chips will boot aid no probs so make sure your not running a soft mod.

To me it looks like a random blue wire with no chip. I don't think you have a chip at all dude. I think someone just told you it was chipped, and its really just a stock xbox. Thats why AID wouldn't boot. _________________

I use to have the same Error 13 problem.I unplugged my Xbox because I was taking a break from it.And when I plugged it back in,Error 16 started showing.So I looked on google and I found this.http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/548462
That fixed my Xbox but it put it back in its original state,because Error 16 is when Clock Cannot be set.But mine problem was a Dashboard file was moved,so we unplugged it and stopped for quite awhile.When I plugged it back in Error 16 started showing.So I'm not sure if this will help but I'll check to see about Error 13 for you. _________________

Error 13 means you gotta hotswap the files back on or get a chip, since it looks like he doesn't have one. _________________

I am not going to diasagree with anyone that knows more than I do but I have managed to boot AID in my XBOX twice just not direct from turning on. IT might be the picture quality but the board attached to the bluee wire is soldered on to the original xbox board and does not look like its factory soldiered. If AID booted at all then I am led to believe that it is chipped is this correct? . Anyhow my main problem at MO is getting out of Error 13

Yes if you booted aid you are chipped or softmodded.
13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.
The error it gives is because of the incompatibility between the (older) dashboard (4920) that older slayer cd installs and the new dashboard/kernel versions found in some new xbox's and found in xbox's that have been connected to xbox live (when you go on xbox-live, it'll upgrade your dashboard file to i believe it is now 5659.03. This dasboard is incompatible with the dash that (old) slayer cd installs (for example 2.5 or lower) for you.
(In detail, in the eeprom chip there is a kernel which is incompatible with the dashboard (4920) that slayer installs.)
So what do you do to fix it? You can use the dashupdate found on most new xbox games! Be sure to 1st unplug your ethernet cable before you do so!!!
Besides that, just use a good installation disc and all is fine. Use aid 4.01 or 2.6 slayer or something similar

dashboards are not xbox kernel related. the error 13 is because one or more of the dash files are an incorrect version to the rest of the dash files. A common problem, some times not all the files get replaced.
Best way is to format the C drive and reload MS dash fresh. Not easy on a softmod but easy with a chipped xbox

Must of grabed the word Kernel in my copy past oops oh well still needs to replace the dash right.

yes, any xbox bios will boot any version xbox dash. The problem happens when 1 or more file versions dont match the rest.
