Okay here is the deal. My xbox disc tray won't open unless there is a disc in it. If disc is in it bam it opens like normal. No disc no open. My friend says the top piece of the dvd drive that holds the locking spindle is magnetized and if I just pop off the little circle thing on top of the dvd drive it should open like normal again. True or False? I hope I explained this the right way. I don't want to confuse anyone. Thanks ahead of time for your knowledge and willingness to help. It is much appreciated Very Happy

ok this is the thing i took my drvie apart to see what was up with it and there was alot of dust and stuff soo i blow it out but for you dont blow with your mouth might get spit on it seriously and it could fry it but anyway i just blow out the dust and it worked at first i think it is the spindle that hangs from the top of the dvd case for the disc sercureor to keep the disc in place i think it gets hung up

just suggestions might help might not

Yeah my friend says the top plate gets magnetized and becomes to strong and wont let go of the spindle easily unless disc is in there. He says if you take off the top plate and leave the plastic securer exposed it will solve this problem. Just wanted to see if anyone knew that too be true. I can field strip a disc drive but when it comes to this damn tray jamming I can't fix it. Just wanted to know if the above will work before I remove top plate.

sounds like it will work sometimes the drive just gets too old lmao
but it wont hurt anything if you take the case apart just leave the lens along and clean it before you put it back together

Okay when you look at the top of the dvd drive there is a little round circle thing that covers the plastic securer. I took that piece of metal off leaving the plastic securer exposed and put the drive back in and fired up the xbox and no jamming. Gotta love it. Maybe this will help the others that have xbox disc trays jamming. Anyhow just wanted to post how this experiment went. Very Happy

Sorry I don't have any for sell right now. I am working on a clear case xbox with a 80mm green lighted fan right now for a friend of mine but I don't really sell them just cosmetic mod them for friends and such. The only mod I have is my own personal xbox which has X-3 solderless chip in it and a 500gb seagate hard drive. It is so sweet Very Happy But I will never sell it. I enjoy it way too much Very Happy But look on ebay for some really good deals. Just make sure they don't try to yank you around on shipping. Some sellers try to make a profit off of the shipping which I think is ridiculious. Anyhow I am sure you will find something very nice on ebay. That is where I have bought most of mine.

Well Ebay is pretty safe. I buy from them all the time and I have never had a problem with them. Just read the sellers feedback and that will usually tell you whether they are trustworthy.Believe me if the seller is bad they won't last long on ebay. As far as the x3 goes it was pretty simple putting it in but took awhile to flash the bios. You can usually find a x3 for sale in one of the canadian stores. I bought mine from a canadian store. So it should be fairly easy to track one down. Hope this helps Very Happy
