Hey all, I want to start playing XBL again, but I want to use the new hard drive that I installed in my xbox and not the stock one. But I know that I will get banned for using a different hdd.
Is there anything I can do so that I don't get banned while playing XBL or do I have no choice but to use the stock hdd?
Here is my current xbox setup:
SID 3.1
Xbox V1.0a
Maxtor 80gb hdd

The way you get banned for using a upgraded hdd is if your xbox has been on live with the stock hdd. So if you've never been on live with that xbox, you should be fine. _________________

When you connect to live, microsoft records the serial numbers of all your hardware so they know if you messed with anything. _________________

Thats gay tho, ur paying for the Live account, u bought the system, ur paying for the net. I mean come on, as long as ur not cheating they shouldnt worry about it, after all it was YOUR money you forked over to them wen Sony has FREE online play..... o well! _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

You gotta understand that weather you do it or not, xbox modding does make it possible to pirate games, and microsoft has to protect their interests. _________________

from what i understand, your eeprom is associated with the serial number from the hard drive thats in your xbox the first time you log onto xblive. It has nothing to do with the drive size. If you were to log onto live, then switch to another stock hdd, you'll get banned. _________________

XBL will check the following:
EEPROM
Serial
Matching Lock/unlock pw's
Online ID
and a few other small serials.
HOWEVER, if you were to say... Freewrite the new softmoded HDD with EVERY signature on your stock HDD, I'm pretty sure they don't check size. Why? Because the Serial will dictate what your size is supposed to be, which if it's stock is either 8 or 10 gigs, mattering on the drive and it's age. So they may not check its size, not sure on the latest updates.

i would think they would even care, i mean to them they are just "out of date" products anyway.
"For those of you who don't know what the Marriage Theory is; its basically when you connect to Xbox Live for the first time you send MS your Xbox's eeprom and your Hard Drive's serial number. Now say, you decide to upgrade your Hard Drive, MS will recognize the change and they will ban your Xbox from Xbox Live." _________________
