I was given a xbox with a broken dvd drive with the EvoX dashboard installed. It isnt chipped so it must have some sort of modded bios? I want to flash the TSOP with Cromwell and install linux. Is there a way to tell what bios it has loaded? Is it possible to install Cromwell without using the cdrom drive but FTP'ing files over via EvoX? Is it true I can use and cdrom/dvd rom drive from a pc once I have cromwell loaded? Or what else do I have to do. Is there anyother way to get another pc dvdrom drive to work on EvoX?
Thanks.

EDIT: I have a V1.2 xbox with samsung drive.

The first thing I'd do is fix or replace the Samsung DVD.

Is the drive problem mechanical or just read errors? If it's read errors, you may be able to tweak it or replace the laser.

You don't need to flash the bios to run Linux. I remember creating a boot disk some years ago that did the job for me. But, I was only playing around.
