Ok, I just bought a X-ecuter 2.6 preorder AProx sept 18th Solderless Modchip combo #16186 off http://www.modchip.ca/store/customer/product.php?productid=16186&cat=264&page=1

U can visit the modchip details there too...anyways, while its on the way, i have downloaded quite a few .iso xbox games...and i dont know what to do after i install my modchip when it arrives...

Its around a 3gb file, and the modchip says it supports cd-r's, but how in the bloody hell am i supposed to fit a 3gb file in a cd-r!!!!

And what type of harddrive does the xbox use, regular ones that the pc use??

Hmm what else...oh and what type of network cables do xbox use? standard ones for the pc??

And i guess thats about it...

1 last question, wil my xbox be able to play dvds without the little bundle but with the modchip installed?

Thx, u guys are great.

hey

What to do after you get your modchip

** Decide whether youll fork out a couple hundred dollars for a decent size hdd. Otherwise youll have to burn the games to dvd.

** Get our autoinstaller - need to be a vip it will install everything you need.

-- the modchip has nothing to do with cd-rs, If the dvd drive cant read em then tough luck -- the samsung is the only dvd drive that will read cd-r

-- you burn games on dvd-r 4.7gb

-- hard drive is a normal one. its locked so you cant use it in your comp. ( you have to unlock it -- see autoinstaller)

-- if you want put a new one in just replace the drive.

-- the xbox uses normal network cables rj-45

-- the auto installer comes with dvd dongle free player. use that you dont need a remote

read up -- youll learn more and have less probs

Hey, thx for the quick reply.

So any normal HDD's will work? nothing special?

To be a vip i need to pay money correct?

Is there anyway to find out if my xbox has a samsung driver right now?

Thx again for the quick reply.

Last but not least (sorry for posting so many times but questions just pop in my mind)

What would u recommend? buying a bigger harddrive and moving them into the memory via ftp or buying a dvd burner and burn the things i need?

Thx above for the link..but now that i know what drive i have (samsung), what are the advantages of it...inside the link, i quote, "My friend has a samsung, and it does not read TDK CDRW,EMTEC CDRW,EMTEC DVD-R or verbatim cdrw"

So im guessing samsung is bad?!?!

Should i just use a 40 gb harddrive which I found in my brothers room and format it (can sum1 tell me how, its from a pc) and use ftp to transfer it to the hard drive.. and after formatting the harddrive should I install the hdd after i install the modchip and evox and all that stuff, or before i install the modchip??

God this whole xbox hdd-ftp transfer and cd burning is confusing the livin crap out of me.

hey

Samsungs the best, main reason itll read cd-rs

40gb is a bit small. Spose you could start with it. Ive got a 80gb and its nearly full. ive had it for about 6months.

save up and buy something >160gb. if you want it to last. Any ATA drive will work.

Like i said before get yourself our autoinstaller it will automatically format the hdd and setup evox as your dash.

Evox, and UnleashX are dashes. Like Windows. without them you cant do anything different from what you had before. there are other dashes.

When you get your xbox running evox ( good for newbs) you can ftp what ever you want onto the hdd

remember tutorials will ansert most questions you got instantly. /\ link

VIP > $10 US paypal
or 13(i think) aus money order

I am so glad you are asking all of these questions prior to installing your chip. It's nice to see someone actually preparing for their mod. Good luck with your install, I hope it goes smoothly for you. Take your time and all will be fine. If you have any snags, just post and we'll help you get sorted.

I recommend a 200GB HD. I personally only have a 120GB but my machine is a little older. You can get a Western Digital 200GB Hd right now at newegg.com for 106.00 plus 1.50 shipping bringing the total to only 107.50! You can't beat that right now. That's about fifty cents per gig...not too shabby!

Evolution X is your dashboard. You are going to need some type of dashboard to navigate and launch applications.

If you choose to use the 40GB Hd there are a few things to take into consideration. You will not be able to store a lot of xbox games on your HD. If you have a DVD Burner on your PC then that will help as you will be able to rip a game with your xbox to the xbox HD and then FTP it to your PC to burn to DVDR. Also, if you plan on gaming on xbox live, or launching the MS Dashboard, make sure that the drive you are about to install is lockable. Here is a link for a resource that I use everyday when I purchase HD's for the mods that I do for members here and other customers. All you need to do is put in the model number and it searches a database and lets you know if the HD was locked and what program locked it.

http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/

Once your machine is chipped there are some procedures you have to go through. A lot of people think when they get their chip all they do is solder it in, install the HD and they're done. That isn't the case.

First, your modchip needs flashed with a bios. The bios is what will allow your machine to run unassigned code. The Microsoft Bios really ties your hands in regard to what you can do. Hence, you can't go buy a stock xbox and save full games to HD, load applications or play DVD's without the DVD Playback Kit. That DVD Playback Kit is just another way for MS to make money. I mean, you already have a DVD Drive built in!! You will need to familiarize yourself with your chips flashing procedure.

Some chips are flashed right from the DVD Drive (my favorite way). Other chips you have to connect the chip to a programmer and then flash it before you install it.

Once your chip is flashed with the hacked bios of choice you will be able to run unassigned code, meaning you can now use autoinstallers to install all of your applications. Applications that allow you to save games to HD, DVD Region Free app that lets you play DVD's with no kit, applications that play MP3's, DivX movies, and so on.

You should have already figured out what version xbox you have prior to ordering your modchip. That is one of the biggest mistakes that I have seen first timers make. Newer 1.6 xbox's are a little limited in what chips you can use, how you can install them and what bios they can be flashed with.

Also, the size of HD you get will also dictate what bios you use.

FTP'ing into your machine is going to be a must, so make sure you get that knowledge as well.

I would start off by reading any tutorial on Evolution X, FTP'ing, Glossary of terms, anything that is for new modders (noobies, newbs, whatever you want to call them).

As you read and have questions don't hesitate to ask. Do not install your chip until you are certain you have everything you need! Even then you may run into a snag or two, but you will be more prepared to deal.

The fact that you have a samsung drive is very cool. They read the most types of disks so you won't have too many problems making boot disks!

later bud!

Omg, thank u so much realmccloy, u cleared up ALOT of stuff for me....
just have a couple of more things to say, which autoinstaller should I use? I have justdownloaded FireFuckers Evox Bundle....is that the 1 that i should be using? or is there one on this site. And is there any other way to becoming a vip member without paying? Im only 13, my older brothers are all in university, and my dad works in a different country.

And if samsungs drive is good just for cd-rs, thats just like for movies and music right? u can't fit games onto cd-rs.

Basically what im thinking is either that:

A) I buy a dvd-drive and just burn games to dvdr's

or

B) Buy a bigger HDD, and ftp the files to my xbox.

Anybody support one? and why do u think that what u think is better than the other.

EDIT: I just realized that newegg.com only ships to america...i live in canada...

Smaller games can easily fit of CDs. However, many games are too large to fit on a CD, but they can be ripped (remove demos, etc.) & then they'll fit. If they cannot be ripped to fit on a CD, you can burn them to a DVD, UNLESS, of course, they are too big to fit. If they are too big to fit, you can trying ripping them. If they're still too big, you can burn them on multiple discs, but only for storage purposes... you can't run a 1-disc game that's been burned onto 2 discs.

Games that are too big for regular DVDs can be burned to a dual layer DVD... if you have the right blank DVD and a burner that can take advantage of it (but the VAST majority out there right now cannot).

Basically, if you cannot get the game onto a single disc that your DVD drive will read, then your only other option is archiving it on the Xbox's HDD (big games may not fit, so you're back to ripping or replacing the retail HDD with a larger aftermarket HDD).

I recommend the Western Digital Caviar series because: 1) they are easy to find, 2) they are cheap, 3) they are lockable.

Get as large as you can afford. I'd like to find a 1TB HDD, but the only one I've seen is external AND over $1,000! I've seen the 250GB HDD on sale for about $150 (maybe cheaper if you hunt around). Remember, it's nearly impossible to make a smaller HDD bigger, but simple to make a larger HDD smaller... just don't store as much stuff on it!

Okie, ive finally made my decision and the decision is to buy the HDD and ftp the stuff, and if i ever need to get a game burnt onto a dvd, ill just download or put the file on multiple cd-rs and give them to my friend to burn them onto a DVD for me!!

And the great thing is that my friend sent me the Xbox-hq EvoX autoinstaller v.1.3, =D. he told me that on a site it said that i have to flash my bios, so he confused me once again! So all I have to do is FTP the autoinstaller after i install the modchip and then once the autoinstaller is installed onto my xbox, then I install my HDD and itll lock it byself and everything?? And i looked at my pc which is closest to my xbox and i had a few cables lying around that looked like a crossover, but the cable slot in my pc is like in the dialup modem or something, and the cable i tried putting in wouldn't fit. Is the crossover cable gonna fit in the modem or is it somewhere else?

Expecting my modchip on Monday Very Happy
