I just have a few quick qestions.
I bought my xbox new in feb 2004, I gave it to some guy along with an 80 gig HD, he installed it along with the Xecuter 2 lite. now a few friends want there's done and I have built a few PC's and I think if I take mine apart i can figure it out. so I think I might be able to do it. my qestions are:
1. I'm wondering how hard is that chip to install?
2. after the chip and HD are installed what is the name of the disc I have to run? how do I get it to run? and where do people get it?
3. what does the chip REALLY do? seems to me that just the bigger HD and software would do the trick, then again I havn't opened mine to see the chip.
4. If I want to switch my 80 gig to a 120 gig, will I be able to just copy everything thats on the 80 over to the 120 and it will all work just like that? (just copy and swap)
Thanks.

Not extremely hard, the newer machines have the LPC holes already free of solder. The older ones (motherboards) kinda blow because you have to desolder the LPC holes.
The main thing you have to be careful of is solder splash, solder bridges, and damaging the MB due to too much heat. It's more of a tedious task than it is a difficult one. Those pin headers are a lot smaller than they look in pictures and the d0 is incredibly tiny.
You just need to really get your ducks in line and no the entire procedure from point a to z prior to even taking your machine apart.

You are talking about an autoinstaller most likely. You will find it in our VIP download area. To become a VIP, just make a $10 donation to the site and you will have access to any app you could ever imagine, not to mention VIP support tickets to help you along the way.
To run an autoinstaller, your xbox has to allow unassigned code to run on it. Currently, Microsoft has a bios on your machine that WILL NOT allow unassigned code to run. Your hands are tied. That's where the modchip comes into play.
The modchip can be flashed with a bios that will allow your xbox to run unassigned code. Just burn the autoinstaller to a disk that your DVD Drive will read and viola...it will run.

The modchip bypasses the microsoft bios that is embedded in the TSOP (except for 1.6 versions) which resides on the MB. There are ways to put a hacked bios on your machine without a modchip, but we don't have much support if any for softmods. The easiest by far is the modchip. A TSOP is a small chip that is soldered to the MB and contains the Microsoft Bios. Version 1.6 xbox's do not have a TSOP. Version 1.6 xbox's are a little more tricky to mod, but very doable. Different modchips are flashed different ways. Take that into consideration prior to purchasing your chip.

Yes, that is very doable. You also have to make sure that after you swap everything to your new HD that you run an autoinstaller and lock the HD.
Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
