(I am a new'b)

I have a new box manufactured on 5.11.2004. I put a the X-Chip in it following the guide posted by easybuy2000.com for a v1.6. The solder job is flawless and I used 30 guage wiring. When it boots I get a red and green flashing LED with the power and eject button. If I unplug the chip the box works just fine. Have I missed a crucial step? or are the latest boxes unmoddable? Any help would be much appreciated.

I only heard about this the other day because he mentioned his aladdins work on all xboxes including the new 1.6b but i think you have to soldier one wire.. Smile

anyway, ill keep trying to find out more info for ya and will post here and in your VIP TICKET when i get the info u need..

Is the Aladdin the same as the X-Chip??

I would think since you are getting the frag right off the bat, then it has to be an install issue. Even though you say your soldering is flawless, that is the number one cause of an immediate frag.

Check for solder splash, solder bridges, and even spots where there isn't enough solder.

I'm not saying you don't know how to solder, just that in my experience when I get immediate frags like that I have always found it to be my soldering. Usually I have a little gap or something as I am always too afraid to get too much solder in the LPC area. Also make sure your D0 is good.

Keep us posted, and also maybe someone else will have other thoughts too.

With the Aladdin chip I think the other 1.6 version that forahobby is talking about has to do with flashing via the programmer. Aladdin can let me know if that is correct, I may have read wrong.

later guys.

I went through and double checked my solder job, I added solder where there might not be enough. Now when I fire it up I get an orange and green flash followed by the continuous red and green.

If my solder job is not good, having crossed contacts or bridged points, then would my xbox be working with the Xchip unplugged? Because it works just fine with the chip unplugged.

Thanks for the input. I really want to figure this out.

P.S. when you speak of "frag" what do you mean.
P.S.S. I am still a new'b

I wanted to see if on the +5V wire it was okay to use 30 guage wiring.

Well, if I understand everything correctly the reason it would be okay if you have a solder issue at the chip/LPC is all because that area isn't firing up when modchip is disabled or removed.

I am pretty sure that is what the D0 is all about. Basically, when your xbox fires up I am pretty sure it throws a signal through the D0 point. Then, the info continues to the modchip since the D0 is in use. If the chip is disabled or not there, it basically stops prior to going to the LPC area and then just reroutes to the TSOP and fires up the MS Bios. Then, the MS Bios of course launches the MS Dash and all is hunky dory.

The LPC area was used by MS to be able to test MB's and machines on the assembly line prior to installing the TSOP and bios.

This was all something that I read several months ago prior to getting into modding. I haven't really studied it in depth as I have been focusing on the different types of chips. I figured I didn't have to understand how the chips work, just needed to know how to get them to work.

But, I think this may be able to answer your question why it works fine when chip is disabled versus enabled. Once your D0 tells the MB to fire the chip and the chip fails, you get a frag.

Please, anyone who has a better understanding correct me or add to what I have said. I may be totally off key and you may be correct, but when my first mod was done and I had a solder issue, I disco'd my Chip and D0 and the puppy fired up fine. Only when I plugged chip back into pin header and resoldered the D0 did I get my immediate frag.

After I checked my solder points it fired up fine to the Xenium OS, and right there I knew I had it beat.

Not sure if it was the Bios or the solder job. I installed evox 1.1 for the xchip and clean off my solder job and re did it. So it may have been one or the other.
