What does a xbox modchip do for me?
By adding a chip to your xbox you will bust your machines power wide open. You will be able to play CDR /CDRW /DVD-R /DVD-RW, as well Macrovision Removed and multi region dvd player capable.
Will the modchip effect or damage my Xbox?
No, the chips will never effect you machine, they at any point can be removed and in the case of the Xecuter a on of switch can even be added so you can instantly restore the xbox to 100% pre-modification. _________________

its not a waste of money because you have more freedom with a mod chip and less of a chance to mess up modding compared to a softmod _________________

Having a modchip makes it a breeze to install a bigger HDD. All you do is install you new HDD, pop in the AID disc and it auto detects/formats the harddisk, and your right to go.
With a softmod, you generally need to use a linux distro called XboxHarddriveMaker in your PC to partition, format, setup and lock the HDD.
Essentially chipmods and softmods do the same thing, there are just slight differences in the way they operate.
Chips cost more, but in the long run they are more stable. Softmods are basically free, except there is a much higher chance of failure if care is not taken.
So the chioce is yours really, just weigh up the pros and cons of each _________________

Also, when you finish installing a chip, you get a sense of satisfaction. I was so excited when I soldered all the pins in myself and the xbox still worked. You can't even describe the satisfaction you get from installing a chip yourself.
Having a chip makes ya feel at ease that you cant possibly screw anything up. _________________

I have to completely agree with the Vets here. I was a softmod king for the longest time. FInally, I caved and got an Xecuter 2.6CE (only chip I'd reccomend other than it's little brother, the X3 ). Lemmie tell ya, it's so freakin easy to do everything.
Today, I screwed up big time changing my main dash. BUT because I have a hacked bios that I edited myself, instead of trying to boot off E (because there was no Evoxdash.xbe) it automatically booted off E:\apps\UnleashX\default.xbe. Saved my ass quickly. Not to mention, I could have just booted off AID 3.0 (which you cannot do with a softmod if you have no dash installed) and just install a dashboard of my choice. So freakin simple.
So in the long run, throw down the money for a chip, bro. It will save you a lot of headache in the future. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

A mod chip is harder to screw up. Now that some are almost rewriteable like a usb flash drive. _________________

Yeah, if you decide to throw down the money for a chip, get it's programmer, to save you furthur headache. That way, you don't have to keep one of the banks flashed with the FlashBios utility to save your ass, just flash both banks using the programmer with whatever BIOS you choose, and you're good to go. If they f00k up, plug the chip into your computer and flash it. It's just freakin helluh great. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
