is it possible to play mp3's on an xbox if so how and whats needed.thanks

Yes you can play MP3's on the xbox using Xbox-Meda Center. you can also play them over your network (streaming) from your PC. It's a beast . As far as playing them in game... I wrote a tutorial:

Or, a totally easier way is to just ftp into your xbox, and go to tdata then ffff0000, which is at the bottom. Then click music, then put all you songs in there. It is the storage for your ms dash location, but can be played through XBMC. But they must be in .WMA format. _________________ Moddingbandit

Yes, but they won't play IN GAME, unless the dashboard (or XboxST editor) encodes the player data into ST.DB. This cannot be done by hand, it has to be done either by the MS Dash or XboxST editor.
