I was going to try and make my son's XBOX wireless so he can do XBOX live. Question is can you use any Wireless G ethernet adapter or do you have to buy one especially for XBOX. I noticed the "gaming" wireless adapters are like 2x as much as a regular wireless adapters.

That's because the Xbox doesn't have drivers needed to work the "regular" wireless adapters. The gaming adapters can stand alone and transmit not only Xbox info but also Tivo and other machines that use USB ports and either ftp or web applications.
Further "G" for an xbox is a waste of money since "B" can handle Xbox live without issues. But if you're going to use it on a 360, "G" may become useful.

I believe the transfer rates are higher on the gaming adapter. I haven't come across anyone that has used a regular wireless adapter yet.

Well all the ones I've seen are 802.11g based which is 54Mbs theoretical and you get no where near that in real life even with a computer. I read some reviews about the Linksys gaming adapter and it sounded like people weren't too impressed.

Maybe I should have posted this in the XBOX Live forum instead.

If I may, my Xbox is wireless. I have the Linksys and the issue isn't with the adapter, it's always with the cheap ass routers. Since I got the D-link 4300, I've had no issues, lag or anything else. No drop outs just headshots. Speaking of headshots... Engima go on kai and hold reeeal still in Halo 2 for me. Muahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Laughing

Linksys WGA11B Wireless-B Game AdapterList Price: $49.99
Price: $34.99 at Amazon.com with free shipping.
It's what I use. Cost me twice what it's worth now dammit Evil or Very Mad
