I'm trying to figure out the 1st best step to take to re-modify
the xbox. It has slayers 3921 and is very limited. It has a x2.6 lite chip in it. The current bios reports Evx M7ej MC ??? I've run boxexplore and everything comes up unknown. The box will not read the auto_installer.iso file. I've de-isoed the auto-installer-2.11.
3 questions
1) Should I ftp the default.xbe file into the xbox but name it
evoxdash.xbe?
2) do I convert the config.xml file to a text file and then rename it
config.ini and ftp it over to the xbox?
3) Are the two actions above most likely the best place to start?

Thanks
No, have not ftp yet. I used c-tools to perform a non-destructive extraction the files.
Have tried to make the iso disc but xbox will not read it. So I was merely wondering if I could ftp portions of it over there in the hope that the 'read problem' would clear up. I also need to know if default.xbe gets renamed to evox*.xbe as well as how to treat config.xml file. It's a matter of what filename the programmer's program is looking for.

you need a softmodded xbox or a chipped xbox to read the disc _________________
Hi pirrup,
Yes, I have x2.6 lite. Always displays 'No disk'.
The person who modded it put slayers on.
I want to get rid of slayer's due to it's age and limitations.
He also did something with the bios. He said he used 1M to flash it.
The literature says it has 2 banks of 512. As you know, the two banks are not additive. Each banks has a limitation of 512. That's why there is a switch. I'm only mentioning that is case I'm wrong. Which I doubt.
I don't know if flashing with 1M has the result of 'you're %$*%^* now'.
I know if I turn the chip off, I get error messages up the wahzoo.
All I get from billy bob, the person who did the modification, is 'why do you want to do that?' Next question, same answer.
Well, I say, for one this won't format a disk. 'Oh no', he responds. 'For that you need the disc that I have'. For what he wants, I could by a g.d. system that had the capability of putting in a larger hdd. How many ways does billy bob wanna screw (I use a different word) me!!!!!!!!
No I don't expect an answer
I think he was competent enough to put the chip in, modify his system to some fashion to get it to function, not be too concerned with the effects, and finally consider himself an expert. Armed with all that expertize, he can now go around screwing up other peoples boxes to be just like his.
'Stick with what you're stuck with' must be his motto. It a good thing he didn't limited it to 8G or whatever the smallest size is.
I don't see anything it the ini file which would prevent a read.
A little while ago, I posted 'what I did to create a failure' or something like that in the Newbie section. It goes into specific detail of what I did to burn the iso file.
Bottom line: I should be able to scrap the entire (software) system; bios and O.S. and re-install. Unless billy bob did something to prevent /wreck
it. It does work w/ 120G but now the chip is a must.
There are only two access points: dvd or ftp. Well dvd does not seem to be working. But I don't want to put something into the system via ftp and then be locked out of it because of something that is in the ini file that I failed to change.
Does xbox always look for default.xbe 1st? That's what in Aid21.
There has got to be a starting point from which I can recover my own mistakes. I won't shotgun it. (for those who do not know, 'shotgun' is a technical term meaning "oh, just replace any part. If that doesn't fix it, replace a different part").
I know billy bob did not write the bios. But it can be called anything the person decides to name it. Thus I can not say it's an xyz bios.

Ok, got through.
The media was the problem.
I used a sony -r dvd disc.
I have have recieved a lot of help and I want thank everyone involved.
Especially the people who made the auto-install program.
I have not installed anything yet. I know I can. That was the big one for me. Before I actually install anything I want to check out the documentation.
