i have a smartx v2 chip on my xbox with no bios or dashboard. i have downloaded evox, it's in rar format how do i burn it to a cd and get it on my xbox. Do i have to flash the chip with a bios first or can i intall evox first.

You have certainly come to the right place for xbox modding help!
Heres a link to a story about DJB's BIOS CD PACK which i think will help you:
Also in our VIP Downloads area your will find individual bioses if you want to download like that too.
I would suggest using the EVOX M8 Bios for your modchip. We really most modchips use the same bioses anyway.. lol
With the Evox M8 Bios there are 2 x versions.. 1 for v1.6 xboxes and 1 x for all others.
Once you get your bios you burn it to CDRW or better DVD-R and boot your xbox with your modchpi fitted.. It will ask for a bios cd so just insert it.
Once your modchip is flashed i would suggest download the XBOXHQ Auto Installer Deluxe (http://www.aid.xbox-hq.com) which has 50+ Dashboards, apps and emulators for your xbox and is very easy to use.. Go read up about it now so after you flash your bios you will know what to do.
Anyway, just ask the guys on HQ they are very friendly and always love lending a hand.

With the SmartXX V2 you can also flash it right from your web browser which is how I flash all of my SmartXX V2's, Xenium Ice's, and X3's. It just saves you from having to make a bios cd.
If you have a router, it's very easy to do.
Just connect your Xbox to your router. Then, when you boot the Xbox and get to the SmartXX OS screen look to the bottom for the IP address that gets automatically assigned to the Xbox.
For instance, if it is 192.168.1.105 then all you have to do is open a browser on your PC and type:
You will then see a SmartXX screen on your monitor and then you can just click the FLASH link. Select the bios that you are going to use (1.6 version Xbox uses M8 bios, 1.6b Xbox uses M8plus, all other you can use X2 4983 or X2 5031 if you wish) and then just hit the submit button.
It is very easy to do and if you have the opportunity to flash your chip that way I highly suggest using it.
