i just bought a broken xbox to fix for fun cuz i'm going to mod the shit out of it when i can, but i want to get it working before i start modding make sure everything is working, so far the only thing that is bad is the damned cd drive, i get then DDDEOD or Damned Dirty Disk Error Of Death. i've taken the damn thing apart like four times, blasted it with air, cleaned the lens and mirror and it still doesnt work please help I"M PISSED ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH

check all connections are good and if it all looks good i'd jsut buy new drive. but then again, i know nothing about repairing an xbox good luck

all the connections are fine the ide cable and power cable are both fine, i also checked the connections to the motherboard, everything should be fine . i'm still getting the damned ddeod. if anyone know how to fix the cd drive plese pm me or post on this forum, would be much appreciated. i'm wondering if i can take the dvd drive all the way apart , you know take the laser and mirror off and clean the other parts inside, maybe thAT would help, but i dont know

I`m in the middle of trying to repair a samsung at the mo
(more like i`ve try`d and failed and left it in bits)
I can`t get to the inside of the mirror and i can see that it is dirty,
i did read somwhere that it helps to turn the pot`s up, I know that used
to help the sega saturn play copyed discs easier, but it hasn`t
helped me. my drive plays most games apart from project gotham
racing 2 for some reason.

Yea tweak the potentiometer, especially if the mirrors are clean. Also, your laser just might be used up. Llamma.com sells new laser as well as ebay, try looking into that also. Oh, if its a thomson, don't salvage it, just buy another drive (Samnsung [best but hard to find, $$$], Philips [Good all around so so to find, $$], Hitachi-Lg [Good All around, (i like it more than the philips, but others don't) its easy to find, I got 1 in each new xbox. Thomson sucks (the 2nd gen, 2003 are alright for basic stuff) you will be happier in the long run. _________________ XBOX v1.6
