Ok, I have a spare Xbox and need to mod it. I've been modding Halo and Halo 2 and need this box to have the same maps as mine, so games can be played via system link.
This box's mfg date is 2003-08-13
Its serial no. is 126603333306
Is there a way to positively tell which version it is by these numbers? If not, what's the proper way?
Before I scurry off to read tuts, What is the best softmod method? What do you need to perform it?

I've done a few soft mods for friends. So I can get you on the right track...
First off, you'll need either the Action Replay Software or you CAN make your own cable by splicing a usb cable with one of your controllers. It's not really THAT hard but it could be daunting for someone who has never done it.
Once you get your controller hooked up to your computer, you'll want to download Ltools and a gamesave hack. I personally have used the Splinter Cell gamesave hack, which you will put onto your controller's memory card so you can load it when you put the game in.
Once you get everything you need put on your memory card, pop in Splinter Cell, load the gamesave hack, and it'll unlock your HD allowing you to use Ltools to install a hacked dashboard.
I can't really think of the other steps but that should at least get you started and I'm sure someone will respond directing you as to what I missed. Hope this helps! _________________ XBOX v1.6c

If your first box (not the spare) has a chip you can softmod quiet easily. You need an original copy (not platinum or special edition) of either 007, mech assult (first one) and splinter cell (again, the first one). Then take the save game hack (can find it in VIP downloads under exploits) for your game of choice and Ltools. FTP the save to your box with a chip, then send it to a memory card. Put the memory card in your spare box and copy the save (or saves, splinter cell has two and theres an additional one with extra dashboards) to the HD. Remove the memory card and put in the game of your choice. Go to campaign (or similiar) and load the hacked save game, which inter runs Ltools. YOu will then have options to load different BIOSes and Dashboards. You can read up on diff tutorials on which version to use on which box (there UXE and UXE 2 I believe). THats pretty much it. After you get Evox loaded (or dash of choice) you can FTP to the spare box and transfer your maps. Hope that helps. _________________ Xbox v1.0

Good thinking on using the modded xbox. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Yeah, use that method because that would have been a large pain in splicing your controller when that's all you needed to do. Thanx 4 teh feedback T-Rizzle and AndrewFink. I've acquired the SC UXE AI, do I need to get the Ltools 1.7.5 for SC also? I was already planning on FTPing the game save hack to the chipped box and then saving to my memory card, but all I have is a regular memory card! My next question is: Will the hacked game save fit onto a regular memory card? Sure I would find out soon enough if I just go at it, but It'd be nice to know before hand if y'all know. IF I remember correctly the SC save game is in 2 parts. Just put them on the mem card and other xbox one at a time. You will also need the extra dashboard psck if you want evox. I would reccomend UXE 2 over UXE but its your choice. _________________ Xbox v1.0

Where's UXE 2 @? I found UXE on front page of HQ. Is this dash pack you speak of by any chance "Ltools Dashes for all versions" in the VIP dl section? When you run the savegame it will give you two options, install UXE or UXE 2. The Ltools Dashes for all versions is the dashboard pack. YOu need part 1 part 2 and the Ltools Dashes for all versions on your stock xbox. Then when you run the savegame choose UXE 2 and evox and you should be all set. Well that should sum it up then. I'll probably try this tonight or tomorrow night at the latest. I'll post the results on this thread. 1 last ?, the Ltools Dashes for all versions, isn't that too large of a file for the stock memory card to hold? All you'll need is the Ltools Installer, no need for the UXE installer really, as it is in french, I'm about to use one of the member's translations then reupload the files in english. Should be up in a day or so. _________________

This is true, but I've used ltools many more times than I have the UXE installer, also with the uxe installer it will only install UnleashX, you would have to replace this with whichever dashboard you rather have via ftp. I rather just have the option between unleashx, mxm, avalaunch, or evox. And then have it install it. Also with ltools you get the choice between 4 different bios loaders, and also 2 different bioses. Not incredible I know, just I like all of that in one package.
The main drawbacks on ltools is that it installs the dashboard in a unique spot, most autoisntallers will not be able to replace these dashes, you will have to do it by ftp. If I remember correctly, when I looked at the french uxe installer, it put the dash in the default c:\evoxdash.xbe location.
Also as with any softmod, you have to be careful as to which files to change, on ltools, it is safe to assume that you just do not mess with C, you can play around a bit with E but you still have to be careful with the biosld and dashboard folders. _________________
