1. Is it possible to load xbox games over a network?
i.e. I have Halo saved on my PC, and I play it on xbox without burning to disc or copying to xbox hdd. Possibly a network drive?
2. How about getting emulators to load roms over a network?
2. Can I change the name of the emulators displayed in the dash?
***I figured this one out. Looks like editing items.xml should do the trick...
3. Which video formats are supported by XBMC?
4. With a usb adapter, can I use a USB HDD? If yes, can I run games from it?
5. Can I use a PC USB controller?

Well that would have been too easy, huh? Editing the items.xml file worked for most of them, but for some reason the xbox changes it back for the PlayStation, Jaguar, and SNES when it boots...

1> No
2> Yes. Madmab emus can run ROMs via SMB or Relax
3> Pretty much all of them except H264 encoded videos
4> No
5> Yes, a very small amount of USB controllers work with emulators
Emu names can be changed via the Menu Edit in Ux or by editing the xbe title using CXBOX-Tools

That figures. The videos I was wanting to watch are all h.264... oh well. Nothing a video converter can't fix.

So I found the option to allow menu edit in the settings, and changed it from "No" to "Yes." But now I can't figure out how to actually edit the menu...

You need to highlight the item and hit Y if I remember correctly and that will bring up the edit options.
If you want it quick, painless and lasting go the xbe route. Its very easy, just run CXBOX on your PC, click on edit XBE title, select the default.xbe for the emu you wanna change and type in the new name. You can wipe the mod, change dashboards etc and the name change will persist.
If you just menu edit if you happen to change dashboards or do a reinstall youll lose the edited name and have to do it again.

Wow. You were right, that was definitely the way to go. I'm suprised how easy that was.
