Hi ! Great forum !
I've been searching around a bit, and have finally softmodded my xbox, after years of mucking about !
I'm wanting to put emulators on it, but they're not showing up in applications or emulators..
I have evolution x dashboard with gears skin.
when I ftp them across using flash fxp, they are transfering (i think, because the numbers move on the xbox dashboard), but nothing is showing up !
Can anyone help out a noob, or point me in the direction of a tutorial that might help? I seem to have followed loads, but I still have the same issue

okay, gotta ask, did you FTP them to the correct locations?
i'm NOT using "EVOX" so i don't know where the "refresh" option is (i use unleashx)
if the numbers climb on the xbox, you ARE copying item to the xbox, question is, is it in the right location/path?
................
take a look at THIS thread, it shows the EXACT default paths for games, apps and EMUS!
the lower video shows APPS being FTP'd to the console but on an unleashx dash, the principle is the same.....
.................
once you have the emus (and whatever) at the correct default locations, reset the console and see if any menu entries appear....
(if you was using unleashx, you could just go into the "emu" menu entry once, press start once to bring up a submenu then select "refresh list" for all new items to show)
......
good luck! _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

There is no refresh, just do a soft reboot, works better than menu refresh with Ux as well.
Step one for this issue is ditch that abomination of a dashboard. Use UnleashX, Avalaunch or XBMC for dash. You should just do this the easy way. Babylon. It can switch your dash, upgrade your mod and install probably 90% of the emus you want with ROMs.
For FTP use either Filezilla or Internet Explorer. Vast majority of FTP issues I see involve FlashFXP. If you insist on using FlashFXP then you want to be running Avalaunch, even just as a live dash, since they wer made to work together (same guys made both apps)

Thanks guys - in regards to this Babylon, is there a link on here, and a "how to" for installation please ? As you can see, I'm a bit dim !!
Just playing "The Suffering" - awesome !
Homebrew software ? I'm clueless - Homebrewed beer - I can do that
Download the four SID5 Babylon files and extract them using 7-Zip. Burn the resulting .iso to a DVD using IMGBurn at x8 speed. Stick that sucker in your Xbox and off you go!

Thank you ever so much !
I assume that when this is installed that I have to download a new dashboard or something ? Sorry for the questions, this stuff goes WAY over my head !!

Nope, Babylon has everything you need. You can do the upgrade and dash switch in one go. When you first boot Babylon click on Filemanager then click on C and look for 2 files called Default.xbe and xb0xdashe.xbe/xb1xdash.xbe
If you see them hit Back, click on mods and click on the mod you want. I recomend X2 UnleashX-Mod Menu
If you dont see those files click on mods-disable shadow c and reboot (leave the disc in) now go to filemanager and check for those files. If you see them its safe to proceed like above.
If you want some cool skins for UnleashX or XBMC just look in the dashboard section on the disc.
And if you are unsure of stuff with Babylon just click on Tutorial and it will play a video explaining whats what

Hi,
I've burned the files to a dvd, but it's not recognising it - I burnt it at 8x, but may have to burn it again slower when i get some more discs...

^^ your xbox already softmodded..CHECK! (for my sake)
try a normal retail game in it just for shits n giggles, at least you'll have half an assurance (better than none) that the drive is stable!
when you get you next stack of disks, try a write at what you plan for the try a write by the disk label definitions!
i went PURELY by SPPV's guidance and got lucky, that's to say my disks were 16x but my drive didn't like the disks at the label definitions so 8x it was (mine was a 16x dsik) and so far, so good!
get yourself the RITEK/verbatim disks...taiyo yuden if you have the jizz for them?
but most brands tend to be fine with RITEK at their core....
double check you dvd writer and xbox drive if the next two MAXIMUM waste of disks doesn't work out!
check writer first...then the xbox drive!
may need cleaning/servicing? such is the nature of "optical units"....
all the best!
[edit]..
for a common good all round result, use IMGBURN and write disk at 8x... _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

I'll get some more dvd's and try to write them at the speed it says on the disc.
Thanks,
Stephen

Right, well the dvd worked this time - I installed unleashed, and was able to install killer instinct and the n64 emulators
I was also able to add goldeneye rom to the N64 folder, but still can't get MAME on it !! I'm really puzzled now !

^^ mame? would that be a "bendermame" or "mameOX" variant?
in truth, i could never get those emus to work properly, they had to be at VERY specific locations as well as the roms..
it was a LONG time ago but the last time i used any mame on the xbox, it had to be run from this location...
Code:
E:/emulators/mame/
(at the time, NO EXCEPTIONS, cfg's couldn't be edited, all changes returned to defaults when mame was reloaded)
try using other coin op emus with a small set of cores like "FBA" (final burn alpha) or "FBA XXX pro" for two examples...
they're better focused, more stable and CAN be configured...
treat it as any other emu item and move it to ANY volume bearing a location..."root:/emulators/FBA/" (and place your roms in the "rom" directory present in the FBA directory if not already occupied/populated)
.....
basically, the mame emus on the xbox are touchy at best (for a console, it's doing too much, mame handles many different cores and each core hasn't been as refined as the focused emus are, a better support on the focused emus if you will?!)
...........
goto "mamedev.org" and see if any updates or help can be found there?!
good luck!
[edit]
DON'T copy anything to the "X:/, Y:/ and Z:/" volumes as they're pagefile/cache partitions and normally get erased automatically upon reset....used for retail games and probably homebrew buffering but the area is volatile in the sense that it gets scrubbed clean for when new games/programs are used) _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!

There hasnt been an updated MAME for XBOX in eons. For arcade either use Final Burn Legends, Final Burn Alpha and CPX3 or else use Coin-ops.
You can get Final Burn Legends in Downloads/Emulators here on the Xbox-HQ site and Final Burn Alpha and CPX3 in the VIP Downloads area.

Thanks, guys...
I think Final Burn Legends is on the Babylon disc, so I'll have a look in a minute.
Your help has been top-notch
I've now got FBL on, and I've put the roms on that are on here to download - now just to find the time to play them all !!
