So I got a SATA 160 gig hdd and i want to use it in my xbox but the SATA Adapter i have doesnt plug into the ide cable but rather the board itself. So what im tryin to do is remove the ide cable/dvd drive so i can plug the adapter into the board and boot it without the dvd drive check. Can I do this with a softmodded xbox or do i have to have a modchip ?

The only way to skip the DVD check, as far as I know, is to have it chipped or TSOPED because you have to change a setting in the bios to have the Xbox skip the DVD check. _________________

Not possible. Softmods work by editing the BIOS on the fly as its cached. So no matter what the original BIOS will be a few seconds ahead of it leaving you with security reqs like HDD must be locked, kernel check, DVD check etc.
Just grab a proper adapter theyre cheap like $6.
