Ok, so i had let my uncle borrow my xbox a couple years ago and just got it back a week or so ago. I've been trying to figure out how to softmod it, but it seems that every time i find some info on what to do and what tools i need I find something else out..some of the problem is that alot of info i'm finding is years old..but so far i've figured out i need a certain copy of mech assault, splinter cell or 007..ok, that's cool...and an xbox memory card..i'm getting one of those in the next couple days....i've also downloaded Softmod Installer Deluxe v5.10 Final and Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v4.53
and i'm not a complete idiot when it comes to stuff like this..i actually flashed a PSP today and my cousin's DS flash card a few days ago..and i used to mess with modded PS1, Dreamcast and PS2's..just haven't done anything with them in forever..I don't want to have to open the Xbox or my PC..and preferably not have to use IRC channels..hoping there is a way to be able to play backups just using a Memory Card, the Installer programs and one of the exploit games

You will need a 32bit PC Action Replay software and either a purchased or home made Action Replay adapter. As for updated tuts you came to the right place. I think this tut shoud answer all your questions. Until UnleashXv0.40 is fuly tested and released you will need to open your XBOX to upgrade the HDD if you want to play XBOX games off HDD.
And if you are not keen on a HDD upgrade my MultiGame Menu program should interest you. It allows you to burn multiple games to one disc instead of just 1.

Thank You for replying, I really appreciate it. I have a question about the Action Replay Adapter. How do I go about making one, do I convert the memory card into it or is there additional hardware I need?
Oh yeah, that Multi-Game Software is awesome as well!

The easiest method for the AR adapter is to cut the plug off a breakaway cord from a XBOX controler and splice a usb on in place of thr original xbox plug. Voila an AR adapter. The first vid in the tut covers adapters

Yeah, my bad, I watched the first video right after asking the question. One more question in regard to that..Will any usb end work? Like I have an extra mini usb adapter with a regular usb plug that goes into the computer, can i use that to splice it?
Hmm...so i just skimmed off some of the cord of the mini usb and it only had silver wire going through it..so what kind of usb cord would i need to use?
EDIT- Upon further inspection i have realized i'm an idiot lol...underneath the silver there are red,green,black and white wires..i guess the question now is is it ok to use the mini usb adapter to hook up to the xbox breakaway cord.
And sorry for the questions, I have only a very slight idea of what I am doing here (def have never modified a controller though lol)

Just cut the mini end off and leave the usb end so it can plug into a PC

I finally got all of my stuff together today and have softmodded the xbox per your tutorials. Played a DVD without the dongle, which was cool lol..Getting a game to try out now..Is there anything else that i need to actually play copied games after i've installed the new dashboard and everything?

You can also format a USB drive- 4GB Max- FAT32 and put movies and music on it and play em with XBMC. Making an adapter is real easy (I show it in vid 1 of the tut above). And the hard part is done, now if you do decide you want to put in a larger HDD for games and to be abe to use it like a media PC/DVD player its quite easy. Wether you do want to or not you should still FTP off your EEPROM backup to your PC then you can fix ANY hard drive/ softmod error.
