FTP Using a Router/Switch/Hub
Firstly, we need to ensure your PC and XBOX are both connected to your router switch or hub. Then we need to make sure your XBOX Dashboard is set to use DHCP by simply going into your network settings and simply switching to DHCP/Dynamic if not already.
That is pretty easy to set up there, so please refer below to connecting using FlashFXP!
well, let's say second - I managed it to plug my network cable into the box - awesome!
But if I go to network settings, the screen shows just black and nothing happens. What's this?

Well, it could be that the dashboard is just corrupt.
Im not sure what to tell unless you can get the auto installer running....the only thing i can think of is if your using a router, just log into it to get your xbox IP address? _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

oh - of course - even I'm able to - didn't think about that.
So I catched the IP from my router interface, but I can't connect - the error message tells me too much idle time.
is it possible that the former user changed the username and password?
that would be the only idea I'd came up with by now.
Or you have any other ideas?

Well, just to make sure we have things clear here. You trying to get the xbox working and are having trouble booting up the Auto Installer correct?
What dashboard would you guys suggest for someone who wants to have their own background and loading image without having to make their own skin?

i would strongly suggest XBMC (XBox Media Center) as it is the most customizable dash i have ever used. Check it out and see if its for you _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

Also, while im typing this, is it a chip or a softmod? sorry i really just dont feel like reading everything to be honest lol
it's a softmod.
I struggle when the xbox should reboot to install the rest of the mod.
it just doesn't restart properly.
-it still boots the AID DVD
-without the DVD it boots with an error screen (error 21)
so wes213 adviced me to

Have you tried the AID option to revert it back to stock?

I did before my 2nd attempt using your video tutorial.
I just can't figure why it won't boot up and install the rest of the mod after the first part seemed to work until this point.
Is that common?
Looks like nothing is triggering the AID to boot and install the rest when rebooting...
how do I reboot properly?
First remove the disk, then shut on and off?
shut off and shut on by opening the drive?
shutting off, then on, then opening the drive?
or shouldn't there be a difference at all?

When it tells you it needs to reboot to finish the install you should just pull the disk and closer the tray, power off and then back on with the power button.
As for the question of is this common, no it is the first time i have ever seen a post on it.
