Try setting the xbox network settings to DHCP and your router should give it an IP.

No don't.. coz everytime you go to ftp to your xbox it will have a different ip address.. lol but you could do that..
Let's try to teach you something.
Ok.. See your Xbox 1 IP ADDRESS?? And now your PC IP ADDRESS?
They are NOT in the same range..
for example:
For any computer on a network to communicate they should be assigned a ip address within the same range.
So what i would do is set your XBOX 1 IP:
IP: 192.168.2.5 ("5" just in case you have other pc's etc)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1
DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1
NO Surprise... Still nothing... I chaged everything double checked it and still not pinging... im using a crossover cable... no router... this is driving me nutz!!!! any other ideas?

Have you got any security software on your PC like firewalls or antivirus.??
I would disable for a few moments and see if you can ping the xbox.
If you xbox pc settings and pc settings are near identicle you will be fine.
Also, check on your modded xbox that you have the FTP Server turned on.
Have you sorted out an IP address for your NIC on your PC or is it set to obtain an IP address automatically ?
on your PC
Start > control panel > network connections > Local area connection - under the general tab, double click on Internet protocol TCP/IP, select use the folowing IP address then enter 192.168.0.2 - then fill in the subnet mask as 255 255 255 0 click ok, then ok again
on your xbox set the ip address to 192.168.0.1
connect your crossover cable then try to ping your xbox _________________

Dunno if you got your problem solved yet or not, but i might be able to help. First obviously you need your evox setting set up so you can ftp in, which i know you already have all that done but it just needs to be said. Now back when i was first trying to ftp to my box i was having problems, mainly because my girlfriend wouldn't let me change her computers IP and such lol. but i accidentally stumbled onto an easy way to ftp in. How i ftp into my xbox is, i'll just open a document folder via my desktop, any one will do, then in the address bar i type in ftp://xbox:xbox@192.168.0.7 (192.168.0.7 being my Ip) it connects right away and shows my xboxes folders C-Z. It has some problems with unleashed dash and XBMC, but for the most part it is sound. Any way hope i help someone.

did you copy this before or after connecting the xbox and pc with a crossover cable, cause as far as i know with this setup both need to have an static ip.
if the computer is still set to hdcp after a wile it shows an error and then it uses a random generated ip that’s my experience when there is no dhcp available.

I have had my house running DHCP for a few years now and not a single IP has changed since i set it up, even with a new PC getting hooked up every day they have not changed.
