Will I need to find a way to re-lock it when I replace it into the Xbox?

I just tried to boot my Xbox, and I'm getting error code 9. Now, I haven't done anything different since I've tried to boot the discs.
EDIT:
Nevermind, I need to lock my door . My bro changed the jumper on the back of the drive. Now, back to the blank screen problem.

Haha,
I'm downloading the full AID disc now. Regular Xbox games will boot, and play perfectly fine, but backups, and the rescue discs will not. I'm burning them onto a Maxell 4.7GB DVD-R. I have a Samsung 605 Rev.B DVD-ROM drive I believe, on an Xbox v1.6b. (If that information helps.)

Ok last week I did the same as you trying to make XBMC my default dash. and I messed up when adding and removing files. and my xbox was in the same condition as yours and would not boot slayers or aid, but it would boot games, it was softmodded with splinter cell and my game save loader and launcher was still in there. so i just resoftmodded the xbox. and I did not loose anything. so before trying to rebuild your HD Just try to resoftmod it. it think you mentioned you used mech assault. it won't take fifteen minutes and your box will be back. so take the time and find your Mech Assault game or borrow another. like I said I did the very same thing not five day ago and this is what i did to recover. hope this helps CJack.

I opened the Xbox to check the connections between the HDD and DVD-ROM to the mobo, and now regular Xbox games won't boot, even though all the IDE cables are tight. The jumper is on the farthest right pins, and all the IDE cables are secure. I'm not sure what caused it.
I checked the ribbon cables under the laser to see if that could be the problem, but they aren't damaged or loose. Hmm... _________________
I Say:
I added a new harddrive to give you 200 GB's of extra disk space, added more RAM, and I switched out the faulty IDE cables so they wouldn't damage your motherboard.
She hears:
"you take the doo hicky and you update it and the high deffinition disc and add 150 gigs and you switch out the thingy ma bob so you dont hurt its mommy then you make a computer..... hahaha"

are you saying that you took the dvd drive apart? to check the ribbon cables under the laser. Listen bro there was nothing wrong with your xbox until you miss placed a file for the XMBC dash and you had no dashboard. you just had to redo the softmod or use slayers or aid to fix the dash. since the box would not read CD-r's of the slayers or Aid but would read Original Xbox games, that tells you right there that nothing is wrong with the DVD drive and that a simple redo of the softmod would have got you going again. I am now afraid that you have possibly damaged the dvd drive by taking it apart. do you have a buddy that may loan you his xbox DVD drive to verify that you have not gotten into further damage. if you use another DVD drive and can boot a original game then put your Mech assault game in and redo the softmod. if a new dvd drive will not boot an original game disk then things have gotten worse. you can still build an EEPROM reader using LLamma's tut but I still think its not that bad yet, I believe that there is a virtual C:drive and a real C:drive and that you have corrupted the virtual C. sorry I don't mean to sound like Im bitchin at you but slow down and think this through. I will try to help too. Cjack

No, my Xbox was already open. I was checking the IDE connections to the MOBO to see if any of my siblings screwed around with 'em because games would not boot. The connections are ribbon cables are tight, and the IDE cables are securely connected.
I have an old DVD-ROM drive from an old Xbox (with a physically damaged HDD), and I can try to use that.
