I'm not too much of a n00b, but I'm not the best either.
I recently changed my default dashboard to XBMC. All was well... until I wanted to upgrade my XBMC version. During my altercation of .xbe (dashboard, I hoped) files, I must have deleted a file needed by the Xbox to start the dashboard.
I boot my Xbox, and I get a black screen after the ''flubber'' animation and the Xbox logo with "Microsoft" under it. I'm not exactly sure if my Xbox is bricked, and unfixable or not. And if not, can I fix it?
I've tried to use Frosty's Xbox Rescue Disc, and the Slayer Rescue Disc, and had no luck. The two discs will not boot.

Hey man welcome to the HQ. Hope you enjoy the site and all the other sites we have to offer. Have you tried booting the AID disk? You should be able to boot the AID disk. If you don't have an AID disk, you can get it here : www.aidtracker.com. _________________

I don't get an error message, it just goes black. It'll still boot up games, but I can't find my MA disc to use my Krayze exploit on my HD.

If worst comes to worst you can always yank the drive and run xboxhdm, I think you can pull the eeprom off the mobo with the IDE cable.

The .r00, .r01 files etc are part of a .rar acrchive. Use a program like Winrar to extract the folders and files.

Okay, I right clicked the 'xbhqaid4.r01' file and choose extract to xbhqaid/. Afterwards I burned the included "Auto-Installer.Deluxe.v4.30.Lite.iso" file to a Maxell DVD-R disc using Alcohol120% at 2x, and 4x
The disc did not start on a coldboot.

Unfortunately, the Xbox drives seem to be very picky about what type of media they take, speeds they burn at, programs use to burn it and sometimes, even the make of media.

FinalCloud,
I have one of the two Samsung DVD-ROM drives in your "Compatible Media" chart, and it says (for both drives) that they can read DVD-R's. This must mean my burn method is causing the problem. I'm now using DVD Decrypter to burn my disc. Now I just need to figure out what speed to burn. I'm using a Maxell 4.7 GB DVD-R.

Just burn at the lowest speed possible. Make sure you check the user manual that came with the AID download. _________________

Okay, I just burned the AID Auto Installer Lite onto a disc at 1.0x. The disc did not boot.
I extracted the files, burned the .iso file onto a DVD-R disc at 1.0x, 2.0x, and 4.0x. I coldbooted the disc (the only way I can even load the regular Xbox games), and had no luck.
