Ok a guy I know brought me two of his xbox's one was a version 1.0 which had a modchip in which failed for some reason and now the box is dead. This xbox had an unlocked 160 gig hd in it with games etc on it. He bought an x3 for the second xbox which was a version 1.4. I installed the x3 for him and got the bios installed and was wondering what I need to do next. Do I need to run the AID and install a dash? I was looking at the hd through whatever dash popped up and could see save games but the only option was to delete them. Sorry I have never had an xbox and got drafted into to this because I told him I might be able to get it going for him. Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the XBOX-HQ, we hope you enjoy this and all the other HQ sites we have to offer.
If he already had the xbox modded then there should be a modded dash on the HDD but if not then yes you should pop in AID and put a dash on it.

Well when it boots it just displays the Microsoft dash I believe. The disk has C,E,and F partitions and I tried setting the dash boot to another partition but it wouldnt do it. So if I install a dash where should it go?

I use EvoX but, same as wes, install to the E drive.
As to which dash is best, I think thats going to boil down to personal preference, you agree wes?
We have members who swear by XBMC, others by UnleashX and some, myself included, who use EvoX for its simplicity sake.
Have a play with them, you'll find the dash right for you. To quote the Matrix:

True Cloud, Evox is simple and gives you all you need and like me XBMC will do a lot of stuff you really don't need but its there if you need it.
I ran Avalaunch for a long time and love it still but XBMC is the only one i know of that is still being developed.
